Upon arrival Spartan was definitely a diamond in the rough. After much needed decompression, socialization, and training Spartan is one of our most well behaved boys. Spartan loves people and is a very friendly boy. He can be a little shy when first meeting people but warms up very quickly. He has been doing great getting introduced to as many people as possible including children. Spartan seems to really like kids and as his manners have improved overall he has become much better behaved around little-ones.
Spartan is an energetic boy true to his possible breed mixtures - Shepherd and Malinois. He does enjoy playing with the other dogs and is a ton of fun in a play yard. He doesn't have much bravery and leans towards the submissive side of things but once he has a friend they can play for hours. Spartan enjoys stuffed animals although I doubt the stuffed animals appreciate the treatment they get after a few hours... Spartan will offer his toys up to other dogs as a friendship offering and it is the most adorable thing. Spartan has also been introduced to cats on two occasions with very good results.
Spartan is the type of dog that most people would have wrote off months ago but will patience, training, and understanding he has transformed into an amazing boy. He will require a family willing to continue basic training simply so that they can stay on the same page and expectations are clear. You won't ask for a more grateful, fun, or loving dog though.
