When we are asked about a rescue that is not only adorable..but very fun-loving and SO sweet, we immediately come up with PJ. His smile is shining...and maybe just a bit mischievous. This curious and really, really smart 18 month old, 8 lb Maltese/Japanese Chin mix is a truly devoted and sweet companion...and the greatest lap-dog ever!
PJ is luckier than most urgent dogs in high-kill shelters. He had a home with lots of love up to this point in his life. His mom ran into the sad circumstances that frequently exist in these poor, rural areas. She lost her home and was forced to move into a rental apartment...dogs are always banned from these rental complexes. She never allowed her sweet PJ to go into the sad local shelter..he will be with her until his transport to Colorado.
PJ's behavior just naturally is so great and sweet. Even though he's a young and energetic guy and up for pretty much any activity, PJ is never pushy or yappy. Exercise and mental stimulation are important to this very smart guy to keep him happy and well-behaved. It's not that extensive amounts of exercise are necessary (PJ only weighs 8 lbs) but enough to keep him healthy and stimulated.
Since PJ loves absolutely everyone...he would be a great choice for any family. The important thing is that everyone realizes that PJ is a very small guy and needs to be treated gently and with care. This tiny guy has a big personality and derives so much joy from his interaction with others. We would love to see him in a family that just loves him dearly and enjoys his cuddly ways and engaging personality. PJ is a great pup who deserves only good things in his life. Once he truly bonds (it doesn't take very long), PJ loves to give nose kisses and big hugs to his favorite people. He feels so deeply and is forever patient to get attention... sometimes he will gently place a paw on his person's arm as if to say, I'm here and I love you.
This adorable and humorous Maltese/Chin mix is in desperate need of a sudsy bath and a serious grooming. It's very difficult to recognize the beauty of this unusual breed mix who has most likely never had a bath or haircut in his life. Once his matts are shaved off and his old and brittle coat is replaced by the cotton-soft coat of his breed mix...there won't be a more handsome dog around.
PJ is a non-shedding pup and therefore will require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (salmon oil would be a great supplement) to keep his coat shiny and matt-free.
