My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What a sweet and kind Schnauzer/Terrier our Wilma is! This has become a designer breed mix that is opportunistically being bred for their adorable looks, non-shedding (or lightly shedding) cotton-soft coats and great temperaments. As a result of this human greed, these pups are being bred, sold for very high prices or dumped if they have any challenges. Farfel's is very happy to rescue these dogs and find them nurturing and committed homes.

At 2 - 3 years old and 25 lbs (such a great medium size), Wilma is an incredibly beautiful girl. She's been through so much..but not for her to complain. The stress and flea-ridden conditions that she's lived in show on what could be an amazing silver/black and white fluffy coat. With a clean, flea-free environment, stability and great nutrition, Wilma will have the shiny and cottony-soft coat that speaks of good health.

We all know that Wilma has spotted a friend when we see the wag that starts at her tail and can become a full-blown body wiggle. Wilma can be initially shy...assessing the situation to make sure all is OK. This makes perfect sense as she's been through time spent at a high-kill shelter waiting for her euthanasia date. When she was identified with a great temperament, Farfel's spoke up to bring Wilma to safety (and a new forever family) in Colorado.

Once she senses that all present are her friends, Wilma is so warm and friendly. Both people and other dogs are drawn to Wilma for her kind attitude and playful ways. She is learning to play with toys (it appears she never had one before) and waits expectantly...with her eyes so bright and joyful..to see if she can engage anyone in her game.

Farfel's Rescue has determined that Wilma needs a very loving and nurturing home where she is an active and important member of the family. We feel that this would be more possible in an adult home (active retirees would be perfect) where there's more time for a fuzzy best friend. Wilma would be overjoyed to spend parts of the day together either hiking or walking through the sunshine in the beauty of Colorado. Then at day's end, she's the ultimate snuggler and sleeps soundly through the night.

It is Wilma's love affair with life and all the hardships that she's suffered along the way that motivates us to put Wilma through Heartworm treatments..her precious life deserves to be saved! She has tested HW+ and Farfel's (with the help of Dr G in Denver) has volunteered to save this very special dog's life. The heart worm treatment process involves several shots followed by a period of mellow time for the dog...leash walking, car trips and gentle play is fine. No hiking or high-energy craziness for Wilma for a limited period of time. We have found this protocol to be very successful and the dogs go on to live long, happy lives.

We are seeking an adopter to lovingly care for Wilma as she becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay the vet bills and provide premium food and treats for this special girl as she becomes healthily heartworm-free.

Wilma (like all dogs) would benefit from positive reinforcement obedience classes that includes the whole family - she is super-smart girl (very true to her Schnauzer/Terrier breeds) who truly wants to please. Great training will give Wilma the skills to be an excellent adult dog. These type of classes will also bring out the great qualities of this Schnauzer/Terrier as well as creating a tightly-knit bonding with all family members
.
Wilma will arrive on transport in Boulder on 3/18/16. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If interested in this sweet and devoted best friend, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
