Sona's Story...
ADOPTED My name is Sona. It means 'Gold' in Hindi. I was born on the mean streets of New Delhi, India a little over a year ago. I moved around a lot and finally found a corner I could live on where I got to know my foster mommy. She rescued me when I was hit by a car, made sure I got medical care and took me back to the US with her. Ever since then I have lived on the inside. I have my vaccinations, have been spayed, know how to walk on a leash, potty outside and I have started professional obedience training. I have so much love to give and really want a forever home where I can be the family dog. I prefer not to live with cats or very young kids. But I do enjoy the company of male dogs & submissive female dogs. My life on the streets cultivated my desire for all the attention. Please give me the attention and show me how great it is living in the good ole US of A! I am currently being fostered in Darnestown, MD. About belgian shepherds: Sona is a perfect ambassador for her breed. Belgian shepherds are a very smart and obedient dog. They are serious and watchful with strong protective and territorial instincts. This breed needs extensive socialization, preferably from an early age, to prevent them from becoming shy or sensitive. Belgian Shepherds need firm (but not harsh) training. Owners need to display a confident, natural authority over the dog. Consistent rules must be set and made clear. This breed is instinctively protective so it should be trained and socialized. Sona will do great with an owner to challenge her mind with an air of leadership and daily exercise along with ample time, attention, training and companionship. The Belgian Shepherd has a lot of energy and needs a job to do. Working lines can have particularly high drive. It tends to bond strongly with one or two people. Take care when introducing this dog with small non-canine pets. They can be rather dominant toward other dogs and need an owner who can communicate to the dog that dominance is an unwanted behavior.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Sona, a Brookeville Belgian Malinois/Shepherd (Unknown Type) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Belgian Malinois/Shepherd (Unknown Type) for sale in Brookeville, or seeking a Belgian Malinois/Shepherd (Unknown Type) dog from a breeder in Brookeville.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Brookeville already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Brookeville breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Belgian Malinois/Shepherd (Unknown Type) breeders who help with Belgian Malinois/Shepherd (Unknown Type) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Brookeville paves the way for another one to be saved.
