My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When Caleb's rescuer walked down the aisle of the dismal Texas shelter, she was shocked to see the adorable (and extremely dirty and matted) Caleb tucked tightly into a cage...his time was up. Farfel's immediately got a call describing how incredibly cute and sweet this Westie/Poodle is..and the need to save his life. We immediately agreed and Caleb became a very treasured Farfel's dog. He has earned a ticket to a wonderful new life in Colorado with his great temperament that holds every possibility for a great future.

Caleb is 3 - 3.5 years old and 25 lbs (such a great age - young enough to have many, many active years ahead but old enough to be past his puppy antics. Also the perfect size for hiking or lap sitting and cuddling.). This very beautiful guy is a blank slate waiting for positive input and guidance to be the best dog he's capable of being. We'd love to match Caleb to a family that will spend lots of time with this very great companion. He's a perfect size to accompany his family just about anywhere...and would love it.

Positive reinforcement group obedience class is highly recommended. It will not only provide socialization and great skills...but will cement the relationship between Caleb and his family. He's so smart that he's a natural to succeed in learning his skills...and would be so excited at his success!

Caleb gets lots of attention when he's out and about...he's engaging (while a bit shy at first) and as sweet as can be. He's also extremely eye-catching..Westie/Poodle mixes are beautiful dogs that sadly are opportunistically bred to be sold for high prices or dumped if any challenges occur. Farfel's Rescue is happy to save these precious dogs and provide them with new and wonderful lives.

When Caleb turns that gentle look in your direction (with those amazing dark and expressive eyes), you can't help but smile at his adorable ways. You can see just a bit of a sign that this guy has had difficult times. But not for him to be negative..a smile and a wag is more Caleb's style. It's clear that he is working on leaving any pain behind.

Farfel's is searching for an adult family for Caleb. It''s not that he actively doesn't like young kids..it just appears that Caleb is more comfortable and braver around adult energy. A retired couple or individual would be perfect for this guy. He would thrive on the time and attention that retirees often put into their pets. Caleb, once bonded, will be a loyal and positive companion - this makes him very easy to spend time with just enjoying the wonders of life in Colorado.

Caleb is a very happy dog once he's comfortable...a bit of patience, treats and belly rubs will truly get this guy's attention as he's had far too little of all in his life. Caleb's foster mom is very happy to report that he is coming out of his shell a bit more each day...Caleb is blossoming. She's very clear that Caleb will be a wonderful and bonded family member when he has love and nurturing as a part of his life.

Caleb is a truly beautiful non-shedding guy. He currently faces the challenge of flea allergies (caused by stress and flea bites that cause an allergic reaction and hair loss). Once Caleb is in a clean, flea-free environment and provided with security, love and great nutrition...his cottony-soft hair will grow back with the beauty that speaks of his breed mix.

Caleb will be arriving on transport in Boulder on 3/18/16. Applications are being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.
