Hi.. my name is ChaCha, but my foster mom calls me Smiley. I am a little Chihuahua dog, my foster mom thinks I might have a tiny tiny bit of Pug in me, cause I have such a cute little square face. I have spent my life giving life to little puppies, as is apparently by my droopy belly, but I am finished with that now. I love my foster home, but I am looking for a home of my very own. I'm not picky, I like my foster sisters and even the funny looking cat that has no tail. I am good in the house, Foster Mom says I am extra good as I 'hold it so long' and when I can't I use something called a Pee-Pee pad, she said that makes be very special. My life has not been too good up until now, but I don't let that get me down. I am just happy to be alive. Foster Mom says I have something called 'heart worms', but she is getting that all taken care of, she tells me I have to be very very quiet and still for 30 days while those worms are being removed from my heart. I know that will not stop the perfect family from taking me in to their home and I can promise that will not stop me from loving everyone in the home completely. If you would like to meet me and see just how wonderful I am please fill out an adoption application so if you love me as much as I know you will, you can take me home with you. You can also email my foster mom at

I was scheduled to be euthanized, but San Antonio Pets Alive! saved me and now they are helping me find the forever, loving home that I have never known.

I am currently located at San Antonio Pets Alive!, and I am in a foster home. By adopting me, you not only give me a new leash on life; you also save the life of the additional dog who can be rescued from euthanasia and placed in foster care.

If you are interested adopting, please email with Pet name and ID#. Please allow us up to 24 hours to respond as all fosters work with us on a volunteer basis.

About San Antonio Pets Alive

About Our Rescue Group...

San Antonio Pets Alive (SAPA!) is a new organization that will be modeled after the very successful Austin Pets Alive (APA). APA was instrumental in helping Austin achieve their goal of no longer euthanizing healthy, adoptable pets from the city shelter. SAPA has teamed up with Animal Care Services in order for the city of SA to reach their no-kill goal.

In partnership with San Antonio’s Animal Care Services, we are implementing innovative and progressive programs to:

Rescue as many pets as possible off of the daily “euthanasia list”. In our rescue program, to not duplicate work of other agencies, we focus solely on the pets who have already been passed over by other groups and the shelters’ adoption programs and create programs to save their lives and find them new homes.

Our rescue program is focused 100% on the dogs and cats who are about to be killed. We wait until the shelters have chosen the pets they want for their adoption programs and other rescue groups have pulled the pets that they can take, then we go in and rescue the rest that we can fit into our programs.
