My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Damon, a 10+ year old shepherd mix at the Columbiana County Dog Pound in Lisbon, Ohio, was moved to an abandoned house to live unattended when his owner couldn't find a place to keep him. Damon was left alone 24/7 except for about an hour on Saturday or Sunday night when a neighbor suspected activity nearby.
Monday at 5 pm CCDP staff arrived due to a report at 4 pm that a dog was seen in the window of a home that had been abandoned for two years. Shut in the downstairs of the house with a half of a bag of Old Roy sitting on the kitchen floor, and a large, empty water container, was Damon, the forlorn figure in the window.
Approximately a week's worth of feces littered the dining room floor. The house smelled of filth, and trash was scattered about.
After investigating the matter further, the deputy dog warden removed Damon, who happily greeted her when she entered the back door. She then left notices on the front and back doors. No one called regarding Damon until 9 pm on Tuesday night, when a message was left. Wednesday morning contact was made with the owner who offered a tale as to why Damon was in the abandoned house. She claimed she and her boyfriend were staying with his mom, and that Damon, who lived outside chained to a dog house, didn't get along with the mother's chihuahua that lived inside, so they decided to put him in the old house they were going to fix up and move into. It was clear there were no improvements taking place in that home. The more the deputy questioned her, the more the story fell apart. She was asked when Damon was last seen by a veterinarian as he is very thin and bony and in need of a health evaluation. She responded he was taken to the vet several years ago when a neighbor shot Damon in the face. The owner stated Damon still has the bullet in his face.
Damon's owner was advised that Damon could not return to live in that house alone, and with irregular care. A dog can't be left for two days with no water. The deputy was able to convince the owner to consider relinquishing Damon so he could enjoy a safe and stable, indoor environment and regular health care in his golden years. She verbally agreed over the phone and was to come to the pound that day or the following day to sign the paperwork. It's been one week since that call and she has neither called again nor visited, so Damon is being promoted for adoption.
Damon was recently neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and heartworm tested (he's negative!) He deserves to have a warm, loving home that can appreciate and enjoy the good natured demeanor of a senior dog, along with their continued curiosity and interest in the world around them.
Please share this boy in hopes he will find that special someone who sees the treasure that is an old dog... someone who wants to take this old boy for a joy ride now and then, just to see the smile on his face.

Damon appears to be in good health. He has been given his Parvo/ Distemper vaccine and he has been dewormed with panacur dewormer.
