Facts about Poe

  • Breed: Border Collie Mix
  • Color: Black - With White
  • Age: Young
  • Size: Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
  • Sex: Female
Poe is a beautiful, young, very vigorous newfoundland/border collie mix. She spent a good number of her roughly 8 months of life in a huge hoarding situation in which she was kept in an outdoor cage with none of the socialization that is so needed for a large, growing dog. Since going into her Heartland foster home she has made up for lost time, helped by her eagerness to please and her voice responsiveness: she responds to the sit command, she has learned to cooperate with leash walking (with a combination of harness and head collar), and she is gradually giving up leaping against doors and walls as a way to get her way and express herself (definitely something she would have learned in her caged existence). Poe is an enthusiastic and energetic playmate for similar dogs but currently needs careful monitoring with the somewhat older and smaller dogs she finds herself with right now. She lives in a house with cats and is interested but not attacking and can probably learn to co-exist safely with them. Because of her size (71 pounds and still growing) and inexperience, she does not yet have free run of the house with the other dogs and cats, but does get to join them each day when she can be monitored. Poes housetraining skills are very good, so she must have been potty trained before she went into the hoarding situation. Poe adores being petted and is especially fond of belly rubs. In spite of her seemingly bigger-than-life personality and behaviors, she is essentially a shy dog, is very nervous around new people, and needs plenty of time to build trust. Poe needs forever people who are experienced with handling and training large dogs, a minimum of a 5 ft. fence in a secure yard, and a large, energetic playmate.

Poe is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested negative and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $225.
