My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

~adoption fee applies – if interested in adoption please email caarescue@gmail.com~
My name is Mika & I was surrendered to the Montreal SPCA by my family
It was really hard for me to be there; I really was very nervous and did not respond well to the cage environment. The employees and volunteers at the Montreal SPCA really tried their best to help me but I was just very scared – petrified in fact. Little did I know that one woman from the SPCA was in conversation with a CAA Rescue volunteer… so while I was being all nervous and stressed out they planned my placement into foster care in less than 24 hours!
So off I went with my CAA Rescue Foster Family where I am having the time of my life!
The family that surrendered me said that they purchased me through a private sale when I was a baby and listed me as a Cocker Spaniel mixed with a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel but at 40+lbs the volunteers are really doubtful and have just listed me as a Cocker. The volunteers joke that with my size they should list me as a Cocker Spaniel mixed with a Bernese Mountain Dog :) so if you are expecting a typical shorter below 30 pound cocker you are in for a shock when you meet me!
I was very and extremely matted and filthy icky dirty when I joined my foster family. My first night my foster mama gave me a bath but it was not enough. So the next day she sent me to her groomer where I was shaved down to get rid of all my mats.
So if you see my pictures you might be a little confused… but trust me I am a long hair boy! And will require grooming on a regular basis
I am currently not 100% house trained but my foster mama recognises my cues and takes me out or lets me out. This is helping a lot with my training and avoiding accidents. Now if I could only figure out how to ask for the door or be a little more obvious with “I’ve gots to GOOOOOOOO!” signals that would be great. So it is important that if you are considering writing to CAA to meet me for potential adoption that you are aware that you will have continue my house training and odds are I will have accidents in your home especially when I first arrive in my newly adoptive family’s home. So if you are considering meeting me you better get ready to roll up those carpets and not say no one ever warned me
I absolutely do love my walks and am leash trained
I am a typical dog barker… nothing extreme – I bark when people come to the door, or when I am startled… normal doggie stuff
For the past two weeks I have been treated for an ear infection; my medication is finished now so hopefully we are all good and I will see the vet for follow up on March 21st
I have been left alone for up to 5 hours and I was crated during this time, I showed no signs of anxiety being crated or left alone. However it is important to note that while the human may have left I do have doggie friends in foster care so even though technically I am alone I am never truly alone. I think that is making a big difference in my life as I adjust to changes
I am also fed in my crate just because I am a glutton with food and would eat all of my food and all of the other dog’s food as well. I do like to eat! :)

I do live with two other dogs in foster care and am friendly with them. I have not been around any cats so we do not know how I would respond living with one
I am very people friendly! LOVE my PEEPS! But there are no young children in foster care and I have not spent any significant time around any even though I believe in my past life with my family I did live in a home with children
I do love my car rides and wherever my foster mama wants to go I am ready to hop into her back seat to go with her

I am an affection boy and have attached myself to my foster mom’s oldest son! I follow him around everywhere and sneak in bed with him every night. Even though we got off on a shaky start together I forgive and forget quite quickly; now I enjoy spending my time with him very much
If you come to meet me there is one thing you should know is that I am a bit of a talker… meaning I can growl like a little bubba bear but it is not an aggressive growl it is more of a “Hey Who are You GRRR?” So please do not be put off by this. I have had to deal with a lot of changes and some very stressful situations these last few weeks and I have responded amazingly!
If you would like to meet Mika at his foster home in Beaconsfield please write to CAARescue@gmail.com we will ask you to complete an adoption application so that we can learn a little more about you and if you are a perfect fit for Mika we will make arrangements for you to meet him for potential adoption
A 3-Step process to adopt one of our foster dogs.
1. Fill the adoption form. It might seem long, but it’s the best way to find the right dog for you and your family!
2. We’ll arrange a meeting with the foster family of the dog you want to meet so you can see if s/he’s the right one for you.
3. If you decide to move forward, you’ll be asked to agree to a home visit, fill-in and sign an adoption contract and pay the adoption fee.
