The Last Resort received an urgent plea from an animal advocate looking for a Husky rescue. There was a Momma and 6 mix pups living outdoors in GA during the winter months and they were trying to help find a rescue for her. As it turns out, Katiyana was chained to a tree on the property of an animal hoarder. Most of the dogs were feral and had been confiscated by Animal Control. But the AC officer couldn’t stand the thought of a very pregnant Katiyana giving birth in a dirty, filthy shelter so they brought her a dog house and some hay and left her outdoors. While they did bring her food and check on her daily it was up to Kat to birth and care for her babies. What an amazing Momma she turned out to be. Kat delivered 6 healthy pups on her own and managed to keep them warm and alive until she was rescued.
Kat’s pups are now 9 weeks old and are ready to go on to live their forever lives, as is Katiyana. We don’t believe she’s Husky afterall, but a 2 year old Yellow Labrador/Shepherd mix. Katiyana is house broken, crate trained, well-mannered and completely dog friendly. For having lived a sheltered outdoor life, she’s a very even keel, temperamented beauty. Kat doesn’t care for toys, but loves bones and she’s very good on a leash – no pulling or reacting to other dogs.
Her ideal home would be one who doesn’t leave her alone for more than 4-5 hours a day. She would be fine with or without other dogs in the home, but no cats please. Her foster Mom would also like to see her have a home with a securely fenced in yard as one of her favorite past times is sunbathing. Katiyana is being fostered in NC but can be transported to our MD or NJ locations for an approved adopter.
