Martina's life didn't start out the best: poor baby came down with a skin issue as a puppy and her first family bathed her raw skin in Lysol -- imagine the pain that she must have endured. Thank goodness her path led her to us because now Marti is a happy, healthy, bouncing baby girl who is ready for her forever family! "Marti" lives in a foster home with 2 other canine foster siblings: a very energetic small breed foster brother and a calm, easy going large breed sister. (She really gets the best of both worlds!) Her favorite playmate is the small, feisty one -- they enjoy running through the yard, chasing birds and leaves. Inside they love to roughhouse and play "catch me if you can" around the dining room table. On the other side of the coin Marti is learning from her big foster sister that slowing down and enjoying the Sunshine is a pretty good way to spend the day. Even the "puppy crazies" need a break!

When Marti came into the rescue it was very obvious that she hadn't always been around kindness from humans like she is now with her foster family. It does not take her long at all to warm up, but she still sometimes does not understand her place in new situations. Sometimes she bark out of fear but has never shown any form of aggression. After a few seconds she realizes that all the new people staring at her are friends. Once that happens, she is all puppy kisses and wagging tails! As Marti watches her foster siblings enjoying the world around them, she becomes more and more confident and outgoing.

Aside from her pup foster family Marti also shares her foster home with some active children. Her human foster brother, who recently turned 10 has been showing Marti the ropes when it comes to backyard sports. Whether it is football or soccer or simply a game of tag, Marti is enjoying all that little boy energy and play. Her preteen human sister is showing her the ropes when it comes to tricks for treats. What a quick study Marti is!! -- Although her puppy brain will not allow her to 'stay' put for long Marti is proficient in many commands and a few tricks. Marti is an amazing pup. A sweet girl who just wants her own family to cuddle up with after a long game of tag and a few treats. She will need someone with a little patience and extra treats to continue to show her how awesome this world can be for a second chance dog.

We think Marti is about 8 months old, she weighs about 40 - 45 pounds and she's a healthy girl. She will be best placed in a home who will work with her initial shyness and that also has another well-balanced dog in the home who can mentor her. If you have the love and nurturing that will let Marti blossom, please visit www.pinkshelter.org for more information about the adoption process or click here for our online application. Full vetting. microchip and spay included in her $400 adoption fee. Transport fee is additional $150. IF YOU HAVE AOL or YAHOO PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM FILE FOR OUR RESPONSE

Why Adoption is a Great Option

*Martina - PENDING, a Westport Shepherd (Unknown Type)/Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shepherd (Unknown Type)/Labrador Retriever for sale in Westport, or seeking a Shepherd (Unknown Type)/Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in Westport.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Westport already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Westport breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shepherd (Unknown Type)/Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Shepherd (Unknown Type)/Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Westport paves the way for another one to be saved.
