My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Baxter is a magnificent-looking, long-coated German Shepherd Dog.  He is a young, adolescent -- around 9 months old.  He's around 65 pounds now, but he may yet get a little bigger.  He recently tested negative for heartworms.

Baxter loves other dogs, and he even gets along well with the house cat in his foster home.  He's already house trained and crate trained too.   He has been developing good leash manners in his foster home, but it's essential that his adopter commit to taking him through a good obedience course to help him reach his full potential.  He's eager to please and learns quickly, which makes him a joy to work with in training.

He's has displayed a great temperament in his foster home.  He's very affectionate and loves to snuggle.  His foster family describes him as a "big baby"--a genuinely sweet, loving boy who would happily sit in your lap.

Despite his size, he still has the curiosity, mischief and goofiness of a puppy.  He benefits from some guidance about boundaries (especially about which objects are "his" and which are "not his"...he is especially fond of house slippers and socks).  He also still has the mouthy behavior of a puppy, so he requires patient redirection to his toys.

Baxter is up-to-date on his vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped.  A completed adoption application, with vet and personal references, and a home check are required to apply to adopt.
