Chester is a 4 year-old boy with quite a story to share. A wonderful, caring family found him here on the Island, after he was attacked by a coyote. He had been severely injured, so it took them a lot of time, money and love to get Chester back on his paws!
They would have loved to keep Chester, but their kitty wouldn't hear of it and tried to attack him repeatedly. Because they had to keep the cats separated, their Labrador kept Chester company! The two became great friends and he enjoyed snuggling with the big dog.
Chester was a little nervous around the other shelter kitties at first (probably from being attacked), but is relaxed and comfortable now.
He did test positive for FIV (feline aids), but because of his docile nature he is not a risk for transferring the disease. (It can only be spread to other cats through blood transfusions or deep puncture wounds caused by fighting.)
FIV kitties need to be kept indoors, fed a nutritious diet and attend regular vet checkups. The same care we recommend for all the kitties. If you would like to learn more about Chester, call Helping Paws Animal Sanctuary at 239-283-9100.

About Helping Paws Animal Sanctuary

About Our Shelter...

Adopting the unadoptable.
Providing abandoned and unwanted pets a second chance.

Helping Paws Animal Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 non-profit, no kill shelter, housing almost 200 healthy cats and kittens, as well as special needs, FIV and FELV cats. They are housed in rooms not cages; waited on by loving volunteers, have toys, TV’s with cat videos and water fountains.

The goal of the shelter is to not only find them homes, but to provide a wonderful home for the cats while they are in our care.

We hope to someday provide an equally loving environment for dogs and other animals when we have a larger facility.
