My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

OZZIE: 4 Year Old Chocolate Male Lab Neutered 85 Pounds

We are not sure why Ozzie was dumped by the side of the road but he had an angel watching out for him that day! The angel watching out for Ozzie was behind a car that slowed down and pushed something out their side door. She looked up and could not believe what she saw rolling on the side of the road but a chocolate lab. The road she was on was not a busy road so she slowed down, opened her passenger door and without missing a step Ozzie jumped right into her car. She took Ozzie right to the vet and other than a little rash he was just fine. She took him home, tried to find anyone who knew Ozzie and then called animal control. (She has two dogs of her own and would have loved to keep him but she does not have time for three large dogs.) GGLRR emailed the Ukiah shelter to see if they wanted help with Ozzie and they said they would love the help and transported him to us last week.

What we know about Ozzie:

Ozzie is a very nice gentle boy! He is very friendly and seems to just roll along with a smile on his face no matter what happens! He loves to play with the ball, has decent leash manners, loves to swim and loves to swim after the ball. He has a very gentle mouth, does not jump up to greet you and rides well in the car. Ozzie has had a lot of changes over the last couple of months and some of them were not great experiences but he seems to have a very sound temperament as he still greets everyone with a tail wag! He knows sit, off, down and loves a good game of fetch. Ozzie has been around other dogs and he is just fine and when we took him to the vet the other day for his neuter he did not mind being at the vet. He does need better leash manners and would suggest he be walked with a correction collar. We do not know about Ozzie with cats and we would suggest a home with older kids or a home that is lab experienced if you have younger kids.

Health:

Ozzie is in great shape and he is one beautiful BOY! Ozzie has been neutered, has all his shots, is heartworm negative, had a fecal test, had his ears cleaned, is microchipped and had a well check. He has droopy eyes and our vet checked him and nothing is wrong with his eyes they are just a little droopy. Ozzie is located in Petaluma.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
