My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ROXY is an 8 year old spayed yellow female Lab who weighs 83 pounds. She is a very sweet and gentle girl. She enjoys going for walks and has lived on a farm where she enjoyed walking around the farm. Roxy has been a breeder dog her entire life. She has always lived with other dogs. She needs to go to a home with another dog. Roxy comes from the country and has no exposure to big cities. Placement is limited to stand alone single family homes in a suburban neighborhood or rural area. She needs to go to a home with a fenced in yard and a home with another dog. No cat history. Roxy is approved for kids 10 +.

Update;:Roxy has quickly transitioned from living on a farm to living in a home. She is housebroken, crate-trained, good on a lead, and cat friendly. When she’s not basking in the sun on the deck, she’s sleeping on a dog bed or on her newly discovered favorite spot, the sofa. Now that she knows the cat is part of the pack, she pays him no attention. By shadowing the resident dogs, she quickly learned the routines and house rules. She is a low-energy girl who just wants to be loved. And she is so easy to love.

Update: Roxy is a real treat to foster. If we had room for three resident labs, I’d keep her in a heartbeat. She gets along well with the two resident labs. Our male usually takes a week to accept a new foster, but Roxy was deemed worthy in less than a day. She loves attention, but doesn’t pester us. She’s a low-key girl who LOVES basking in the sun on the deck or napping on a dog bed inside. Now that her stitches have been removed, we’ve been taking her for walks around the neighborhood and she does well: only slight pulling on the lead, and not enough to need an easy-walk harness. We’ve also been teaching her to play. She had no idea what a ball was, but she started to play fetch in her first session. Her foster brother loves to be chased around the yard, but Roxy hasn’t caught on to that game yet. We’ve been introducing her to our brave cat, and she’s curious. If he runs, she will start to chase him, but stops immediately if told “no.” I think she would be fine with a cat given the proper introduction.

Update: ROXY arrived last night and after exploring the house she plopped on a dog bed quite happily. She slept through the night without a peep in our bedroom on a dog bed. After "marking" in the house upon arrival and being told that was inappropriate, she has since been fine in the house. She was especially mesmerized by the tv. She wants nothing but love and attention, but she's not pushy about it. What a sweet girl!

From Evaluator/ Transporter: Roxy is a very sweet and pretty girl. She was fine with me touching her all over. She is a little shy but warms up to you. Roxy has a beautiful coat and was a good passenger on the ride to the vet. Her pictures don't do her justice. Her new family will be so lucky to adopt her.
