Facts about Lucky

  • Breed: Chihuahua Mix
  • Color: White - With Tan, Yellow Or Fawn
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
  • Sex: Male

Lucky is his name, and you could say that he was Lucky that we had an opening and were able to take him into our program, but also unlucky that his owner had to move to a cold climate for work and due to Lucky’s arthritis she did not feel that it was right to take him with her. He is not in any pain or on any medication just Glucosamine for his joints. We are just hoping he will be lucky in the end with a wonderful home.
Lucky is a very sweet boy and does have a little limp due to some bad knees and should not be allowed to jump on and off furniture but that’s OK with him because he is fine sleeping in his doggie bed unless you are on the sofa then he wants to be at your side sleeping. He is a very kind gentle soul that gets along great with the other dogs in his household. He is completely housebroken, currently using a doggie door and he has free roam of the house and backyard when his foster mom is at work. His favorite pass-time is to sunbathe in the yard, and he especially loves walking on a leash. He is about 8.5 lbs. He did tend to chase the cats in his first foster home. He didn’t intend to hurt them but it was a fun game. So if your cats are not easily amused he may not be the right fit.
Lucky is very sweet, loves to snuggle, is a complete lap dog and becomes very devoted to his owner. He wants nothing more than to sit beside you. Somehow he seems to always get there and you don’t even realize he has! One thing for sure, say its “dinner time” and he springs into a puppy mode. Runs all around, dances, tail wags, just goes crazy for food! And just wait until he looks at you with those big eyes, he knows just how to get his way! He does bark at noises that he hears around the house, mostly the front door, but will stop when told. Great little guard dog! His previous owner told us that he was not comfortable around young children.

Lucky takes a bit to warm up to new people, but once he offers that 1st kiss, you’re in like flin! If you want a gentle little boy that will be your bestie, he is the one.

Lucky is neutered, has had a complete blood panel and dental, is heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative. He is current on vaccines and microchipped. Lucky’s adoption fee is being sponsored by an anonymous donor. You still must meet all our adoption requirements which are listed on our website and complete an application. The process will be the same as if you were paying an adoption fee.

About Chihuahua Rescue and Rehab

About Our Rescue Group...

CR&R was developed due to the overwhelming overpopulation of Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes in our county shelters. Many never even make it to the adoption floor because of shelter over crowding of the breed. Chihuahuas are currently the #2 breed being euthanized in our shelters today.

Additionally, the cost to get these small dogs ready for adoption is astronomical. Blood panels for seniors, dentals on nearly 75% of the dogs along with the normal spay/neuter and vaccines.

The Director of CR&R is a Chihuahua lover herself and previously ran an all breed rescue but retired. But the fate of these wonderful dogs brought her back into the rescue world to try and make a difference.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our adoption events are held on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month in Vacaville at PetSmart in the Nut Tree Plaza from 11am to 2pm. Located at 1621 E. Monte Vista Ave.

Please bring the entire family and your dogs to meet the dog you are interested in and make a day of it. The Nut Tree Plaza is a fun place to visit.

Our Adoption Process...

The first step in our adoption process is completing an on-line adoption application by going to our website at We do not show our dogs without it. Once your application is approved we will contact you to set up a meeting for your family and any other dogs in the home to meet the dog you are interested in. If all goes well and it seems to be the right match for you and the dog then we will set up arrangements to do a home visit and then the adoption of the dog. Our home visits are not to further interrogate you but to make sure that your yard is safe and you are ready to bring a little dog into your home. Many people over look small little holes that tiny Chihuahuas can get out of. We want to help you prepare for your new family member and make the transition as smooth as possible. Our adoption fees are $150 for adult dogs and $175-$200 for puppies unless otherwise noted.
