My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What a sweet and kind Wheaten/Schnauzer mix our George is! Is that a Wheatzer or a Tenschnau...we're not sure but it's a designer breed mix that is opportunistically being bred for their adorable looks, non-shedding cotton-soft coats and great temperaments. As a result of this human greed, these pups are being bred, sold for very high prices or dumped if they have any challenges. Farfel's is very happy to rescue these dogs and find them nurturing and committed homes.

At 2.5 - 3 years old and 30 lbs, George is an incredibly beautiful guy (so difficult to tell in this shelter photo of a very matted and filthy dog). We all know George has arrived when we see the wag that starts at his tail and becomes a full-blown body wiggle...George is greeting either a friend or anyone who has the potential to be a future playmate. He is initially shy, assessing the situation to make sure all is OK. This makes perfect sense as he's been through time spent at a high-kill shelter waiting for his pending euthanasia date. When George was identified with a great temperament, Farfel's spoke up to bring him to safety (and a new forever family) in Colorado.

Once he senses that all present are his friends, George is so warm and friendly that he always hopes every pat and kind word will turn into a beloved friend. Both people and other dogs are drawn to George for his kind attitude and playful ways. He is learning to play and waits expectantly...with his eyes so bright and joyful..to run off again just because it's so fun. George seems to have a bit of leash experience as he's in the process of developing his skills and seems to love the experience.

Farfel's Rescue has determined that George would be overjoyed to be part of a very involved and loving home where he is an active and important member of the family. We feel that this would be more possible in an adult home (retirees would be perfect) where George could spend lots of time with a present and nurturing family. George would be overjoyed to spend parts of the day together either hiking or walking through the beauty of Colorado. Then at day's end, he's the ultimate snuggler and sleeps soundly through the night.

It is George's love affair with life and all the hardships that he's suffered along the way that motivates us to put him through Heartworm treatments..his precious life deserves to be saved! George has tested low HW+ and Farfel's (with the help of Dr G in Denver) has volunteered to save this very special dog's life. The heart worm treatment process involves several shots followed by a short period of quiet time for the dog. We have found this protocol to be very successful and the dogs go on to live long, happy lives.

We are seeking an adopter to lovingly care for George as he becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process as it only entails mellow time with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay the vet bills and provide premium food and treats for this special dog as he becomes healthily heartworm-free.

George (like all dogs) would benefit from positive reinforcement obedience classes that include the whole family - he is a super-smart guy who truly wants to please. Great training will give George the skills to be a well-behaved (and therefore truly pleasant) adult dog.

George appears to be a non-shedding pup (although it's difficult to tell for certain until his sad shelter coat grows out) with a beautiful golden coat. He will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition (a salmon oil supplement would do wonders for George's amazing coat) to keep his hair cottony soft and matt-free.

Geoge will arrive on transport in Boulder on Friday 4/8/16. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If interested in this sweet and devoted best friend, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
