We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable young puppy. They're so new and fresh with every possibility open to them. That's the case unless they're in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great Texas rescuer in saving Merlin and his siblings...she could see that their temperaments were so kind and sweet that she couldn't allow them to be euthanized.
Merlin is the kind of very endearing puppy that will lie in your arms and give a periodic loving kiss. His great personality was the key to his being noticed and therefore rescued. Merlin was immediately brought to be vetted and temperament tested... and then brought to a great Houston foster home to receive pure love and begin his education. It turns out that Merlin, at only 14 weeks old and 12 lbs. (expected by the vet to be approximately 40 - 45 lbs when full-grown) is so sweet and super smart.. it's become a fun and rewarding experience for his foster mom to watch Merlin blossom.
Merlin is like a blank slate...open and curious about everything around him..he's incredibly entertaining when he gets going. If he continues this regimen of socialization that promotes positive relationships with other dogs and bonding with humans...Merlin will become a well-adjusted and pleasant adult companion.
Merlin is an adorable Labrador Retriever/Soft Coated Collie mix puppy with a stunning brindle coat that, with great nutrition and care, will speak of the beauty of this very loving puppy. Merlin (and his siblings) were diagnosed with dermatitis caused by fleas, shelter dirt and stress. He has since been moved into a foster home with clean conditions, lots of love and far less stress..and is doing very well.
Merlin's calm and sweet demeanor is just who he is...he just appears to be a bit more analytical than your average crazy puppy. If Merlin is treated kindly with clear behavioral guidelines, he will become a well-adjusted dog who respects his people as his leaders. This is the kind of loving and committed family we're searching for for Merlin. We also feel it's very important that Merlin is provided with exercise and mental stimulation. He will learn valuable socialization skills through puppy kindergarten followed by positive reinforcement obedience training classes. Merlin will also be overjoyed with hiking with his best human (and canine) friends along Colorado paths and enjoying the sunshine.
We're searching for a family for Merlin that spends lots of time at home and chooses to include a fuzzy companion in their activities. Merlin can be taught that the car is a fun place that leads to great adventures out in the community and can therefore accompany his family just about anywhere.
