My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hand-Raised Female Cockatiels: Chachi (white) and Tino (yellow), Both ~1year
The two female cockatiels up for adoption are a little over a year old. They were hand-raised as chicks and are sweet as can be. The white bird, Chachi, is very gregarious and loves to play and forage. Her favorite place in on your shoulder, or lap, or arm, watching what you're up to, getting scritched, nibbling on a piece of shiny jewelry, or preening herself. The yellow bird, Tino, is just as sweet, but slightly more shy. She is partially blind (we think) - because even as a fledgling she's had less-than-ideal depth perception when it came to flight landings. That said, she flys, navigates her cage, and out-of-cage play structures just fine. She also loves to sit on your shoulder and preen your hair or her feathers. She likes to be close to her sister and will use a beacon tweet, which Chachi replies to (think marco-polo), to locate her when she's out of sight. They LOVE baths and getting misted with warm water. They are both dog-savvy, though a high-drive dog would probably torment and scare them. No cats please. They would probably get along fine with other birds in the household. They love to spend time out of their cage, and we would like to place them in a home where that can be easily accomodated.

Both birds are free-flighted, and their wings have never been clipped, a personal choice. They eat a diet of high-quality pellet (Harrison's Adult Lifetime Fine), supplemented with seed in their forage toys, and fresh veggies, fruits, and grains. They will come with their big cage (pictured below), perches, toys, and food. Previous experience with pet birds is ideal, but not required. We are looking for a home where they can get ample out-of-cage time to spread their wings and interact with the family. These birds have long lives ahead of them - cockatiels can live for 20 years, or more, provided they are well-cared for; birds are very sensitive to drafts, smoke, and odorant aerosols (cooking odors, cleaning products, etc.). They are exceptionally sweet, goofy, interactive little parrots, and will be great companions for someone with the time and resources to care for them.
