Facts about Fannie (Mo' Mannie)

  • Breed: Pigeon
  • Color: White
  • Age: Young
  • Sex: Male
  • ID#: 9859262-A2016029
Fannie is safe now but she almost didn't make it. She's a King pigeon, bred for meat, who survived the squab industry and then managed to live long enough after being inhumanely 'released' to get rescued. She's very lucky because most birds like her are killed within a matter of hours by any number of predators. Fannie was seen standing on an Alameda patio all day long and, when the homeowner saw she was still there even after dark, she knew something was wrong and contacted us. We got her to catch Fannie and bring her indoors and then, when we saw a photo showing how weak & thin she was, one of our volunteers went out (late night & in the rain) to pick her up immediately so that she could get urgently needed supportive care. Poor Fannie arrived weighing only 370 grams when she should weigh 600. She very nearly starved to death & it will take time for her to recover her proper body weight and strength. (We're stil tube-feeding her to supplement what she eats on her own.) We're pretty sure Fannie is female but we can't know for sure until she's healed up and feeling strong. She's pretty shy but who wouldn't be after going through all that? She'll be a great bird in the right home (or aviary). Please- spread the word. Never release domestic birds to the wild! Please apply to adopt

About Palomacy Pigeon & Dove Adoptions

About Our Rescue Group...

Palomacy Pigeon & Dove Adoption saves homeless domestic (unreleasable) pigeons and doves in the SF/Bay Area from euthanasia by providing veterinary care, foster and forever homes.

Palomacy fills a deadly gap in the animal welfare community by saving the lives of domestic/unreleasable doves and pigeons that would otherwise be killed. We're volunteer-powered, donation supported and culture changing! By providing avian vet care, foster and forever homes, we've saved more than 700 birds' lives since 2007. Join us!

Come Meet Our Pets...

We are a volunteer-powered rescue and our birds are lovingly cared for in the private homes and backyard aviaries of our foster volunteers. Potential adopters can make appointments to meet our birds and we are at adoption & outreach events almost every weekend. See our Events page at and visit our Facebook page at for details.

Our Adoption Process...

We require an online adoption application, phone screen & home visit and offer lots of support and coaching all along the way. Our adoption fee is $10/bird and our expectations for adopters are:
-Appropriately sized, safe and uncrowded cage or aviary approved by Palomacy
-Supervised, safe out-of-cage time (if not living in an aviary) daily
-No free flight/uncaged outside time
-Protection from hazards including but not limited to escape, pets, predators, fumes and toxins
-Companionship- lots of your time or another bird's (not home alone)
-Avian vet care if sick or injured
-Compassionate, healthy care that provides for the bird's nutritional (including lighting), physical and emotional well-being
-No breeding, birth control if bird has a mate (real eggs replaced with fakes which we provide)
-A forever home (through sickness and health, for better or worse) with a pet-care plan in place should something happen to you
-No selling, sporting or business use of birds
-Return to Palomacy if unable to keep the bird (This is not desired- we expect that you are providing a forever home!)
