My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pulgoso is an extremely sweet senior looking for a home to enjoy his golden years. You wouldn't know by his appearance, but he is nearly 18 years old!
Pulgoso has been an extremely easy addition to my home. He is completely house trained and sleeps most of the day. His is crated during the workday and sleeps on a dog bed in the bedroom during the night. He walks extremely well on leash. Don't let this little guy's age fool you--he can easily walk one to two miles. Pulgoso is very opinionated and he isn't afraid to let you know verbally when he isn't happy or if you are moving too slow for his liking. For this reason he would not do well in an apartment as he bellows loudly. When he is crated for the workday, sometimes he barks when I leave. Pulgoso is accustomed to having another dog around for company, but he may be ok if his forever home had someone home most of the day. He does have some arthritis in his hind legs. While he does navigate the stairs in the house slowly but steadily, he may benefit from being in a home with fewer stairs.
It is my understanding that Pulgoso was the dominant dog in his previous household. Despite a couple of humping incidents, he has assimilated well as the third dog. He coexists peacefully with a larger male coonhound and a smaller female beagle. The female beagle has initiated play with him on a couple of occasions and Pulgoso seemed interested in participating, but I had to stop the game quickly because the coonhound was too rambunctious in his play style.
Overall, Pulgoso is a very independent beagle. He is not much of a cuddler and only occasionally seeks affection. He is content to sleep on a dog bed or on the floor where you are and puts himself to bed at night. He is learning to enjoy belly rubs and soft treats.
