When you adopt a young cat, it’s a 15-20 year commitment. Avaleen’s owner didn’t see it that way and after having her for a short time, decided to move and not take her with! On top of that, the previous owner surrendered Avaleen to Chicago Animal Care and Control, which is a kill shelter. Fortunately, Heartland had room for Avaleen and she is safe with us until we find someone who is willing to give her that lifelong commitment. Born in 2015, Avaleen is a pretty brown tabby who would probably do best in a quiet home without children or other pets. She loves to be petted and to have her ears scratched once she trusts you. We aren't sure about Avaleen's past, but we know she can sometimes be skittish or reactive. For that reason, we recommend she be adopted by experienced cat guardians who can give her the love and patience she needs.

About Heartland Animal Shelter

About Our Shelter...

Heartland Animal Shelter is a no-kill humane 501 c 3 organization dedicated to finding homeless pets forever homes while educating the public on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets in order to help with the pet overpopulation problem.

Dr. Herbert Preiser, DVM and founder of Heartland Animal Shelter wanted to make a difference by saving the lives of pets who might otherwise be euthanized because of the over-population of unwanted pets. Dr. Preiser opened Heartland Animal Shelter in October of 2002.

Heartland's vision is to eliminate euthanasia to any adoptable animal. Heartland asks for your support by spreading the word about the importance of why pets should be spayed or neutered in order to prevent overpopulation of cats and dogs. Together we can make a difference!
