Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Wrigley! Wrigley came to us when his owners were no longer able to care for him, just in time for Cubs' opening day! He looks--and acts-- like a mix between a jack russell terrier, dachshund, and possibly chihuahua. He is about five months old, weighs under 10 pounds, and has typical puppy energy: he runs around like crazy for a few minutes, then falls asleep on his bed.
Wrigley is incredibly friendly and wants nothing more than to be near you chewing on a toy, or crawling into your lap to take a nap. He loves to play fetch and is quite good at it! He is well behaved in the house, walks well on a leash, and is used to sleeping in his crate at night. He is not much of a barker, but will cry or bark when first placed in his crate. He is still working on his potty training - he is improving, but does still have accidents. As anyone who has house-trained a dachshund knows, he will need to be kept on a regular schedule, with frequent, supervised potty trips outside.
Wrigley is good with other dogs of all sizes and ages, and the same with kids. He was in a foster home with two children (ages 5 and 2) so we know he will be a great family dog. Whether playing outside, making dinner or putting the kids to bed, he just wanted to be part of the fun. And did we mention how friendly he is? As one of the kids put it, "If you don't like getting puppy kisses you won't like getting this dog!"
Because he is still a puppy, Wrigley needs a family where someone is home part or all day to continue his potty training. Obedience training is also a requirement. You can meet Wrigley at Wilmette Pet Center, 625 Green Bay Road in Wilmette, during normal business hours (847-251-6750). Although you will want to scoop him up and take him home, please know you will have to go through the application process first.
Wrigley's adoption fee of $375 includes: vet exam, distemper combo vaccination, bordetella vaccination, rabies vaccination, microchip, deworming, flea and tick prevention, heart worm test, heart worm preventative and neuter. Sorry, Opening Day Cubs tickets not included!
