My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Fiero

Cocker Spaniel, Buff

Adult male, 29 lbs.

My name is Fiero-after the character in Wicked. I was running loose on these mean Memphis Streets when my foster mom stopped to check on me. I hopped right into her truck so I love to go for car rides!

According to my foster mom, I am the PERFECT cocker spaniel. And that seems to be a big deal! I have awesome house manners. I greet everyone I meet with a wiggly butt and I like other doggies. However, squirrels are another matter. I am an ACE at squirrel harassment. I hate those tree rats.

I am being treated for heartworms and I should be completely well by June 4th. Frankly, I did not even know I was sick, but these folks at RGDR sure know their stuff and take really awesome care of us foster dogs. You should give a donation to them to help take care of dogs like us. It would mean a lot.

Now, listen, I have yet to meet a person or a dog that I don’t like. Why, I bet I would even like those things called cats. That’s how friendly and good natured I am (according to my foster mom). My leash skills are great and I love to go for walks. I sit for greeting every time and take treats ever so gently when offered. Another thing, I am a people pleaser. So, if you can communicate what you want me to do, I am happy to oblige.

If I could pick my perfect home, it would be one where there is a fenced yard to keep me safe—NO holes, no gaps! And a loving family who appreciates a good natured, happy fella like me to hang out with—and will spend time with me. Kids who have good doggy manners would be awesome, too. No toddlers….they might fall on me and squish me.

Fiero’s adoption fee is $200 (includes his heartworm treatment), he is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all his vaccinations.
The ideal home for this Real Good Dog will have a secure fenced yard. A solid history of excellent vet care for current or previous pets is required. Preference will be given to applicants who have specific breed experience.

Please visit www.realgoodrescue.com to submit an electronic application if you are interested in adopting this or any other Real Good Dog.

We adopt dogs from Memphis Animal Shelter when we can. The shelter has an 83% euthanasia rate, one of the highest in the country. Unfortunately, any dog coming from Memphis Animal Shelter, and most other shelters for that matter, will have been in contact with contagious illness. Even though the dogs have been in foster care and appear to be in good health, they may become stressed when changing environments and exhibit signs and symptoms of illness. If you have other pets, they need to be up to date on vaccines before bringing a shelter dog into your home. We will take the adopted animal back, but we are not responsible for your other animal's vet care. We always disclose where the dogs have come from. Please ask for any information about the dogs and exercise due caution if you have immunocompromised animals.
