My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SOPHIE is a 13 year old intact yellow female who weighs 57 pounds. She is a golden lady looking for a place to live out her golden years in luxury. She was previously an outdoor dog and lived in a kennel with several other dogs all her life. She was not well cared for and is looking for a family that can give her the love she deserves! Sophie has trouble with hearing so using visual commands works better for her. She is stressed in the kennel and looking forward to having a forever family. She is unknown with cats, or kids.. She is good with other dogs. Sophie is approved for kids ages 10+.

ul 17, 2016: Mellow Yellow should be Sophie's theme song. This 13 year old sweetie enjoys several short walks a day, can do steps with no problem, and will sometimes play for short periods. She loves being with people, following you everywhere and sitting by you. She will share your bed if you allow her, and snuggle along side your legs. She asks nothing of you but love, comfort, something yummy, and as much of your attention as you can give her. She is very low maintenance!

Update: Sophie now weighs 66 pounds. Only a couple more to reach her ideal weight.

Update: We have been fostering Sophie for about 2 weeks. She’s a sweetheart who loves spending time close to people. She always greets us with her tail wagging and a friendly lick. As soon as she sees her leash picked up, she becomes as excited as a young pup. Her tail starts rotating in a circle. She has real pep in her step when going for walks, her favorite pastime, besides eating and taking naps. She waits patiently to be taken outside. No pulling or jumping up issues. She passes by squirrels and rabbits without any interest. She rides very well in a car.

Update:: Sophie is a great dog! She is super sweet, very affectionate, and as loving as she is lovable! She settled right in with her foster family, and is both happy and relaxed. Sophie loves to cuddle and follow her people around. She enjoys napping with her people and sleeps through the night. For Sophie, age is just a number and at 13 she has no trouble getting around. She is in great physical condition, and seems to be only slightly stiff when getting up in the morning. She does love a gentle massage to her shoulder blades and hips to loosen her up in the the mornings! Sophie a little skinny from her previous life, but she is slowly gaining weight with regular meals and LOVES eating. Sophie loves going for walks in the neighborhood and walks well on the leash. She has trouble hearing, so visual commands work best for her. She has started learning the “Librarian Shhh” command of an index finger over your lips when it’s time to quiet down and the “Crossing Guard, stop signal” to back up. Sophie prefers to be fed separately from other dogs.

Update:: Sophie is a 13-year old sweetheart who loves walks, loves snuggling and even sits pretty for treats. This girl leaves a rough life behind her and looks forward to finding her forever family. She still needs to gain some weight but like most Labs, she LOVES food so putting on that weight will be easy

Update:: Sophie is a very sweet dog who is good with other dogs and cats. She appears to be house trained (no accidents in the two days she’s been here). She’s very easy going and laid back. She loves to snuggle with me on the couch and gives kisses – she really loves people. Sophie will put her paw on my leg to let me know not to stop petting her. She sleeps great through the night and is a very happy girl when breakfast and dinner are served. She will sit for treats and takes them gently. Sophie loves going for short walks around the neighborhood and goes up and down stairs with ease. Sophie will do just great in a home with or without other dogs. If you’re looking for an easy-going lap lab, then Sophie’s your girl.
