Here's what the humans have to say about me:
When Forever Parents Become Foster Parents
Annie was a stray in Mississippi, had a litter of puppies, and ended up in a high-kill shelter for two months. In September 2014 we adopted her through the Animal Rescue Front and brought her home to Maine. She was about a year and a half old at the time. She is a very people-loving, sweet-mannered dog who had a rough start in life. She uis about 40 lbs. loves to fetch a ball or Frisbee in her fenced yard, ride in the car, take walks, and go on hikes. She loves children but is too quick and strong to play safely with young ones. She has never bitten or even tried to bite a human, can share her toys, and is not food aggressive. Annie knows how to sit, lie down, shake, stand up, beg, stay, wait, roll over, and come. She is very treat-motivated to learn and is eager to please. We’re guessing she is a beagle/hound/pointer/terrier/boxer mix. She is sometimes dog selective, (we think because of fear) but after a slow introduction, she now loves to play with my son’s dog, a big English shepherd mix. With more socialization around other dogs, I think she would do better, as she loves to play.
Heartbreakingly, we must find a new home for Annie because I had an accident in the spring that resulted in three broken bones, and I spent seven weeks in a wheelchair. I’ve largely recovered but can’t risk another fall. My husband and I are seniors with increasing health challenges that make it more difficult for us to give Annie the active life she needs. She thrives around people and with positive reinforcement, can sleep a lot (especially in front of a warm wood stove!), and is adaptable to her people. We have two cats, but they must live upstairs because Annie (through no lack of our trying to train her otherwise) treats them like prey. Annie is also a lot of fun, but not for cats!
I am located here in New England and would love to meet you to see if we could become a family!
