My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our Pepe is a charismatic Miniature Pinscher ready for his next life adventure. He was abandoned by his owners to a high kill animal control facility, where he became absolutely terrified. Typically, owner surrendered dogs have a tough time in the shelter after losing their beloved family members. Even a sub-par owner is a hero in their dog's eyes.

Pepe joined us a while ago and has really blossomed in foster care. It was clear at the beginning that Pepe's former owners did absolutely no leadership or obedience work with him. He came to us with Big Min Pin Attitude, which we have channeled into exercise and obedience work. Now seven years old, Pepe has learned to relax and let a Human Pack Leader call the shots.

Pepe is a large Min Pin, weighing 15 pounds. He bears the classic black and tan colors, but with a white stripe on his chest that suggests a smidge of something else. He has a leggy, athletic build, and a natural intensity and focus that makes for a great watch dog.

Pepe is best suited for experienced Min Pin lovers, who are willing to take charge and continue Pepe on his excercise and obedience regimen. Pepe is a high-energy dog who needs a good deal of exercise, at least two to three brisk walks a day. He would make an ideal running, walking or hiking buddy, but if he is left alone in a fenced-in yard he will slowly go nuts.

Pepe needs folks who will engage him and make him a big part of their lives. He needs ongoing socialization and continued obedience work. Pepe loves his obedience sequence, takes great pride and pleasure in completing the tasks, and will work for treats or praise. Obedience work seems to tire him out, almost as much as a brisk run.

Pepe would shine with the structured efforts of active adults. He's not a good candidate for large families, and will likely intimidate small children and cats. He likes other dogs, and could easily join a multi-dog home with proper introduction. Pepe has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home.

Pepe is in excellent health. He is neutered, and has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, and microchipped.
