Facts about Lainey

  • Breed: Boxer
  • Color: White
  • Age: Young
  • Size: Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
  • Sex: Female
Lainey is new to ABR in mid April and the star of a video that showed what a vital role our volunteers play in transporting our dogs on their freedom rides. Lainey is about 11 to 12 months old in August. She is from the Harlingen area and like most of our rescues from the area, received preventive medications for tick borne illnesses. She is a bit underweight, but love and time and regular food will take care of that.

Lainey has a pretty white coat with a brown patch on her face. She is about as loving as they come, very attentive and deaf. She likes other dogs with proper introductions. She is still a puppy and has puppy exuberance and curiosity, so her foster mom is helping her learn the hand signs she’ll need. ABR does not place deaf dogs in families with young children. The behaviors of dogs like Lainey can be misinterpreted by their canine friends as well as by their humans, so calm, steady and attentive care is necessary to help her develop.

Lainey is house trained and crate trained, and even though she has done well with children she has met, she needs to be with kids 10 or older because deaf dogs can be startled by youngsters who do not understand their needs. The bond you’ll build while you learn to communicate with each other is almost magical. Owners of deaf Boxers say it’s worth every second. It really is.

The photos of Lainey and her best friend, Benny Pointer, tell it all. They rely on one another, the old guy and the youngster. They need a home together.
