Facts about Eddie

  • Breed: Bernese Mountain Dog
  • Color: Tricolor (Tan/Brown & Black & White)
  • Age: Young
  • Size: Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
  • Sex: Male
Eddie is a handsome, goofy, fun-loving, 3 year old Bernese Moutain Dog that came to Heath's Haven Rescue from Washington, D.C. after he had an embolism in his spine causing hind end paralysis. He regained the use of his hind end, but not his tail function, and he is still incontinent. Due to hygiene issues with his incontinence, as well as him being diagnosed with IBD (Irritable Bowel Disease), his tail was amputated. Regardless of all of his health issues, he is a happy, loving, high energy boy that would like a family of his own!

Eddie will always need to be on a RAW DIET due to his IBD. After months of struggling with soft stools, this has proven to be the only diet for him that does not cause intestinal upset and diarrhea (IBD Flare-ups). He will need his bladder expressed 3 times per day to prevent urinary tract infections and will need frequent grooming/bathing to keep his hind end clean. Although he is incontinent, he loves to be around people so he will not do well as an "outside only" dog. He loves spending the day outside with his other doggy friends, but needs to come inside at night and be with his family. He is crate trained (at bedtime to keep his "accidents" contained), neutered, current on vaccines, and microchipped.

About Heath's Haven Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Heath's Haven is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, organization dedicated to rescuing and improving the lives of special needs animals in the community. We specialize in the rehabilitation of animals with neurological conditions and mobility issues. The dogs are provided with everything they need to succeed in a forever home, including a wheelchair if needed.
We do this for the animals that would otherwise be looked over and euthanized. Our mission is to educate the public that special needs dogs can live a meaningful, healthy, happy life...just like any other dog!

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption process for Heath's Haven Rescue starts with the potential adopter filling out an adoption application. We will then contact the potential adopter to set up a Meet and Greet for the dog and the potential adopter. The next step is a "sleepover." This could be for one night, a weekend, or even as long as a week or two. We want it to work for everyone! Next, the potential adopter would fill out he adoption contract and submit their adoption donation of $150.
