About Almost Home Dog Rescue of NJ

About Our Rescue Group...

Almost Home Dog Rescue of NJ (AHDR), is a 501 (c) 3 organization with volunteers having over 18 years experience in the animal rescue field. AHDR does not have a shelter facility, we rely on volunteers to take our dogs into their homes and care for them until they are adopted. We get our dogs from many different situations: local pounds, shelters, owner surrenders and more. AHDRs goal is to help mend these broken hearts and bodies and place these, once unfortunate dogs and puppies into their new loving forever homes. You can help us! The more volunteers and foster homes we have, the more dogs we can save. If you would like to join forces with us to help us grow and accomplish our mission of having no more homeless dogs, then please contact us. The more volunteers and foster homes we have, the more dogs we can save. Think about it, if you only help one dog, that one dogs life has changed forever.

Why do I have to fill out an adoption application?
Almost Home Dog Rescue (AHDR) of NJ puts much more than just money into our pets. They are treated as a member of their foster family. We want to ensure that the pet you want to adopt is the right fit for your family as well. We use the applications, vet reference check and in-home interview to ensure this.

What is a home visit and why is it required?
A home visit is an in-home pre-adoption interview. You will be visited by an AHDR volunteer and usually the pet you are wanting to adopt. This is to verify the information provided on the adoption application as well as explain our adoption policies. This also allows you to see how the pet may behave in the new environment.

Why an adoption fee?
AHDR's fee for a dog adoption is $350. Please view and fill out our adoption application if you are interested in one of our pets. Your pet has been part of a foster home environment where they have received love, socialization and training. In addition, pets are current on all vaccinations as needed for their age unless otherwise noted. Taking all the costs of feeding and other supplies as well, our adoption fee is really very minimal, rarely covering our expenses.

What if my pet gets sick after the adoption?
You are responsible for all medical care after the adoption agreement is signed, unless other arrangements have been made. You will receive copies of all veterinary records with your adoption contract so that your vet will know your pet's medical history.

Why is my pet microchipped?
All pets that are rescued through AHDR are microchipped with Home Again technology. This is a special program for shelter pets that provides information for your pet to be returned to you if he gets lost and ends up at animal control, a veterinary office or another rescue.
