My name is Samson, and I used to be a gypsy... Roaming country roads and sleeping on the highway. But I gave up my traveling life to settle down with a family and a big couch. All my friends tell me I'm a really chill dude. You know... calm, gentle, affectionate. Serious. Kind of nerdy. Really, my top priority is finding someone who I can keep company and chill with. If you'll hold my paw and gaze into my eyes all day, that's even better! But if you're up for some action, I can do pretty much anything. I chase my basketball around like a tornado. I learned all the stuff they taught in school: come, sit, down, and stay. The agility work was a cake walk. (I can scale an A-frame in 1.5 seconds. From a dead sit. Seriously.) Also, I confess I do like to tree the occasional opossum. Can't resist. Oh, and I love to ride in cars. (Hangover from my traveling days, I guess.) I didn't meet a lot of people on the road, so sometimes new people freak me out . (They're all like, 'oooh', 'ahhh', touch feely, reach reach, rush rush. Seriously, people-- boundaries!) But the people who've made friends with me are awesome, and I'm really attached to them! To break it down, I can cover anything you need... so what's on your wish list! Action? Romance? Survival drills? Cooking? Movie marathons? Hiking? It's all here! Please help me find that lucky person who can say, 'This is Samson, and he's my BEST FRIEND'. P.S.: I'm current on all my vaccinations, heartworm, flea/tick prevention and I'm neutered. I'm crate trained, house trained, clicker trained. I walk great on a leash. And bonus! I can go to my new home with free dog training lessons! I scored a 'Purple/Constant Companion' on the ASPCA Meet Your Match profile. Are you a match for me? Purple, orange, or green? Take the survey and find out!

About Humane Society of Harris County

About Our Rescue Group...

The Humane Society of Harris County was founded in 1991 and has continually serviced Harris County and the surrounding area for 24 years. HSHC currently provides shelter and adoption opportunities for homeless dogs and cats though a small network of foster homes and a small kennel on loan to us by a Harris County resident. Just over 600 animals have found new, permanent homes since 2008. In addition, we provide numerous outreach programs including:
• HSHC Pet Food Pantry, which is run in coordination with the Harris County Meals-on-Wheels program. The program has distributed over 4,000 pounds of food since its inception.
• “Tag You’re It”, a pet identification initiative that encourages residents to properly identify their pets by offering low cost microchips and tags. Over 200 resident dogs and cats have been identified through this program.
• Dog Obedience Classes to help local residents train their dogs and overcome behavior problems that cause owners to relinquish their animals to shelters.
• “Helping Hounds” a program run in cooperation with the Muscogee County Youth Development Campus pairing youth offenders with shelter dogs. The program is built on the premise that dogs and people together can become the catalyst for a positive change in each other’s lives.
