My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Toto is a 2 year old Terrier-Pekingese mix. He is still a puppy, even though he's 2. He needs to learn boundaries but he's super sweet and affectionate. Will push in others food but not in a mean way. Needs work on leash manners, because he's not use to a leash.

He is laid-back and good with other dogs, cats and kids. He is intelligent, curious and playful. He can be a big comfort to someone too.

He could be trained to do tricks because he is very food motivated.

He is up to date on shots, neutered, microchipped and heartworm negative.

***Rules of the Road- A Guide Through our Adoption Process***

We know you are excited about the prospect of adding a new member to your family. Here are the rules of the road to guide you through the process.

Step 1 – Contact us for an application

You are interested in a dog on one of our several pet adoptions sites. Please email the contact listed on the site you saw the dog. Ask for an application for adoption. Please do not send multiple inquiries from all the websites. This only slows things down. Please only email once. We will respond to you within 2-3 business days. Please do not ask us to call you. We all have busy lives and this in no way will help you on the road to adoption. We do not have time to call people. The first step is the Application.

Step 2 – Fill out the application COMPLETELY do not leave blanks.

I know this sounds like a simple thing but many people leave blanks on their application and this slows the whole process down. So please be sure to fill in all blanks or write N/A not applicable. We need complete information on both of the application and matching form to help us make the best decision possible for placing the dogs.

Step 3 – Return the application in a timely fashion we ask that you do so within 5 days of receipt

Return the application within 5 days. We ask this because people will get their application and wait and wait to send it back when there are others who have sent theirs in a timely fashion and have been approved. People are upset because they may have received an application a month ago but another person may have been approved for a dog, who applied later but got their application in quick.

Step 4- Give us time to process your application

We all have busy lives. People in rescue are no different. Most of us have full time jobs and family obligations and pursue our passion for rescue in our spare moments. So sit back and give us a week to get your application print it out and go over it. Its not just a matter of making a few calls. Give us the time to carefully go over your application as we take pride in matching up dogs to people and have a good success rate in doing it this way. Please do not email us multiple times. We will contact you as soon as we have finished your application. Again if you do that it takes away the time we need to review your application.

Step 5 – Give us time to arrange transport

Once you are approved and home visit approved it will take time to arrange transport for dogs coming from out of state. It can take up to 4 weeks to get a dog transported to where you are. Some dogs are in fostered in the State that you reside so their transport can be arranged much quicker it will be just a matter of making a time convenient for the transporter and you to meet up.

Application Submittance and Review Policy

All submitted applications will be dated and numbered in the order that they are received. There are a number of factors we base our decisions on and everyone is given a fair shake in the process. The key is to fill out your application completely and submit it quickly. You may not be the first application we receive but that does not mean you are out of the running for a dog. Potential adopters sometimes back out and not all applications are approved. If this is the case we go onto the next application in line and we keep doing so until we come up with an approved application. This takes time.

Once you are contacted by one of our staff to say you are approved there is still another step to complete. That would be the home visit. No adoption is ever fully approved until a home visit is completed first. This takes time for either staff to complete or if it is out of our area to find a volunteer and arrange a visit to your home. Once we have the home visit paperwork in hand you will be contacted as to the results. If you are approved we will contact you to arrange either bringing the dog to you or having you meet us to pick up the dog.

If you follow these easy steps the whole process will go more quickly and smooth. If you have questions please contact the staff who you have originally contacted by email only and please do not make multiple inquiries. We appreciate your cooperation through the process. Its all about finding the best match for the dogs in our care and we appreciate your understand.

Adoption Fee Policy

There is an adoption fee for ALL dogs in our rescue so please do not ask if there is a fee. Our fees range from $100-500 . Our fees are based on the costs of vetting the dogs and usually we only charge half of what we have spent on a dog. We do not profit from the adoption of any of our dogs. The portion of the fee that we do not charge you has to be made up. The loss is made up by fundraising. Our staff work very hard fundraising. Also every adoption fee gets recycled to help the next dog in need. If we did not charge an adoption fee we would not be in rescue for very long so as sad as it is we simply cannot afford to give dogs away free of charge. We usually do not set the fee until the dog has an approved adopter because we have to go over completely their veterinary records and bills. Every dog has every need addressed before adoption.
