My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have a beige male chinchilla that is looking for his new home. He came to NWI a few months ago, and he was born around 2009-2010. This makes him right about 6-7 years old – he’s not a spring chicken anymore, but he’s still a great chin and needs a family of his own!

His name is Mal, which is short for Maleficent, and he is a hetero beige chinchilla. At least, we’re pretty sure that’s the color he’d be, under all of that fur chewing! He is very sweet, and very cute, and very fur chewed. The poor boy is stressing out here, but you can tell he’s a super nice, super sweet chin, because he is awesome when you hold him. He is awesome with being held and petted, he sits nicely in your arms when you are holding him. He’s just an all around great guy. He doesn’t bite.

He was somewhat fur chewed when he came here, but it’s only gotten worse with time. He’s apparently not a fan of being here, and needs to find a home of his own! Due to the fact that he’s fur chewing more here, and we have sort of a busy environment with people coming and going all the time, we’d recommend a more relaxed home with less commotion. We already have him in a cage up against a wall with less commotion and in a dark corner, and he’s still not happy, so he likely needs a home with no little kids (as in, older teenagers or none at all) and not a very hustle and bustle environment. Think relaxed, calm environment for this boy.

He’s a fun chin, he likes his wheel and enjoys his wooden tube and his hidey house. If he’s comfortable with you, you can reach in and pet him, and give him scritches and he just chills and enjoys the attention. But he needs a very quiet new home to thrive.

Because he is stressing out here, by himself, we don’t recommend that he go as a cagemate for another chin. He would probably do better by himself.

This chinchilla would make a good “first chinchilla” for someone who’s never had chinchillas before, as long as that home is quiet and relaxed and the new home doesn’t attempt to push him to interact or into new situations too quickly.

This chinchilla will come with some food to start you out (2 pounds of Mazuri pellets), a goodie bags of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. He will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet, fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire, and provide proof of cage. If you are unwilling to do these things, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

This chinchilla is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). Sorry, but we do not ship.
