My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Maggie and I am one of Midwest BREW's Amazing Assortment of Retired Beagles! I’m a very sweet and good natured little girl weighing in at 17 lbs. and my vet guesses me to be about 8 years old.

I had a rough start to life. Before coming to Midwest Brew I lived my entire life outside in a box up off the ground. I lived in terrible conditions and when my owners would no longer care for me they called animal control and I ended up in a shelter. The vet thinks my back legs are weak from living in a box for 8 years and not being able to walk around. She thinks they will get better once I get regular exercise. Foster mom has even seen a difference in my walk since getting to her house! When I first got there I was not able to jump up on her couch but now I’m a pro at it. I was also diagnosed as heartworm positive, but I’ve come through the difficult treatment and now I am just fine. I do need a HeartGard preventative chew every 30 days for the rest of my life, but that should be standard for every dog! That, and a little love and TLC is all I need to live my happily ever after!

When I first came into my foster home I didn’t know what to think about living inside and I was scared of everything. Some things still scare me but I am getting better each day. The other beagles here have helped me to transition to life in a happy home. They taught me how to use the doggie door and helped me to learn that I need to potty outside. I am good about that but if you don’t have a doggie door I may need more training as I don’t know how to tell you I need to go out. I do like it best when you go outside with me and walk around the yard, so I should be a pretty quick learner. I have become very good buddies with the other beagles and sometimes we play but for the most part I’m a couch potato. I would love to have a buddy in my forever home!

At first I didn’t know how to walk on a leash but my foster mom worked with me before I started my heart worm treatment. Now I love taking a walk; it is so much fun! Right now we only go one block but I just love to smell all the good smells along the way. I also ride well in the car!

Foster mom doesn’t even have to tell me to go to bed. About 8pm each evening I just go in my dog crate. She leaves the door open all the time, and it’s a nice cozy place for me (besides her bed; sometimes I get up there, too…giggle giggle). I sleep all night without a peep. When she is at work I have the run of the house. I am such a good girl and spend most of my day on the couch sleeping.

So if you are considering an easy going companion, who likes an evening stroll and plenty of couch time, look no further! Me, Maggie, is the girl for you!
