My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Petunia is an incredibly cute ball of cottony fur that climbs into your heart (and lap) with a wag. Her photo in no way does this amazing spirit justice...once Petunia gets a sudsy bath and grooming, she'll absolutely be one of the cutest pups around. Her silver coat with tips of black is so striking and her dark eyes so wise and kind - Petunia is quite the gorgeous girl!

At 2.5 - 3 years old and about 12 lbs, Petunia is every bit the young and happy girl as well as a lap-dog extraordinaire. Initially, we have to remember that Petunia has been through time at a very high-kill shelter...a very scary experience. Once she understands that she's loved and respected, Petunia falls in love quickly.

Farfel's Rescue desire is to nurture a positive vision of the world by matching Petunia to a family who expresses their devotion for her in many different ways. We'd like Petunia to attend positive reinforcement group obedience group classes to be the very best dog she's capable of. It appears that Petunia (once bonded) will soak up positive feedback with every effort to be the best behaved girl around.

We feel that Petunia would be overjoyed with active retirees who have the time and desire to have a fuzzy best friend. Petunia would bask in their love and her self-esteem would soar. Petunia would also be happy with very gentle older children or a dog-loving adult family who will include her in their activities and truly enjoy her companionship.

Petunia is so portable that she can easily be a constant best friend. She would love nothing more than walks in the sunshine, trips to the store (she's a great window-shopping friend) or even a place at a pet-friendly workplace. Once bonded, Petunia can be introduced to virtually any situation...and if there is love and gentle guidance...she can succeed.

It is Petunia's love affair with life and all the hardships that she's suffered along the way that motivates us to put Petunia through Heartworm treatments..her precious life deserves to be saved! Petunia has tested low HW+ and Farfel's (with the help of Dr G in Denver) has volunteered to save this very special dog's life. The heart worm treatment process involves several shots followed by a short period of quiet time for the dog. We have found this protocol to be very successful and the dogs go on to live long, happy lives.

We are seeking an adopter to lovingly care for Petunia as she becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process as it only entails mellow time with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay the vet bills and provide premium food and treats for this special girl as she becomes healthily heartworm-free.

Petunia is a non-shedding pup. She will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep her coat cottony-soft and matt-free. This regimen will bring out the unusual coloring and softness of Petunia's amazing coat.

Petunia is arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 4/29/16. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If interested in this very loving and cuddly best friend, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
