Belle is a 12-year-old, 16-pound Terrier mix. More than anything, she loves cuddling with her person. Since she's blind and can't see your face, she will lovingly lick the air until she makes contact with your chin (at which point you should expect copious kisses). Her personality is precious and incredibly endearing. Since her vision is impaired, meeting new dogs can be a startling experience for her. If they bump into her, or vice versa, she can react in fear and start a scuffle. But sometimes she just sniffs and is on her way. We think the happiest scenario for sweet Belle is one where she is the center of your attention and the only dog in your home. Belle navigates her surroundings with caution but surprising ease and enthusiasm. She enjoys investigating the yard and loves going for walks, especially in wide open spaces where she doesn't bump into things. She's easy to handle and enjoys being picked up. Belle is excited to go for car rides and just loves them. When it's time for her daily eye drops or to take a bath, she's a good little girl. Belle has low vision in one eye and light perception in the other, according to our ophthalmologist.Belle loves being brushed and sits patiently for you, then she runs around the room to show off how pretty she looks. She has the most energy when she's fresh out of the bath! One thing to keep in mind: Ms. Belle is a fan of the culinary arts, so it's probably a good idea to keep food put away when it's not mealtime. Belle spent her previous years as an outdoor dog, being passed around among family members. She was picked up as a stray, and the family made the difficult decision to surrender her to Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter.
