Get ready for the Duke! He is a friendly and energetic 5 year old Labrador Retriever who is looking for his forever home.  He has not met a dog or person that he does not like.  He would love a friend to play along with - tug of war, fetch, chase, walks and swimming are just some of his favorite activities.  He loves to be where his people are, sitting or laying down contently nearby.  He adores the 2 and 4 year old that live here at his foster home.  Duke looks forward to story time when he lays on my son's bed and then leaves when I leave.
Duke has a dietary special need - low carb, since he is a diabetic.  He takes insulin two times per day after his meals and has frozen green beans as a treat.  It is simple to give him his shot, he pretty much will come to you and sit down waiting for it.  A frozen green bean treat was used to add positive reinforcement, so he always gets one (or two!) afterwards.
Duke does not like to be alone in the house when he can hear us outside.  He is vocal and will bark off and on until we come in.  He has not been destructive, but if he sees a way out (i.e. a screened window is open and he sees you out there) - he will most likely try to get to you.   Simple precautions to make life with Duke safe and happy for everyone - and HE IS WORTH IT!!  Duke is a super lovey dog, you will fall in love with him when you meet him!

About Diamonds in the Ruff Animal Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Diamonds in the Ruff Animal Rescue is a non profit animal rescue organization that is run by a dedicated group of volunteers. Our mission is to protect the welfare of animals, one life at a time, from unnecessary euthanasia. From high kill shelters to foster homes to caring adoptive families, Diamonds in the Ruff handles every aspect of the rescue process. Our animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive necessary medical treatment. Foster homes are used to provide sanctuary and ensure a successful placement. Our goal is to make the adoption process a kind, informative and rewarding experience because we believe that every animal can become a treasured family pet.

Why we do it:
4 million animals are euthanized each year in the United States.
That is 300,000 a month
Over 11,000 each day
Diamonds in the Ruff Animal Rescue works tirelessly to decrease this statistic.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We are a foster based rescue, but do also have a small shelter. You can contact us at to setup an appointment to come out and check out some of our adoptables.

Our Adoption Process...

We require each applicant to complete an adoption application, followed by a home visit. We also contact personal and veterinarian references. We want to make sure that the next home our furbabies go to, is their last, and that they will be loved like a member of the family.
