My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our Ruby is a beautiful gem of a girl, who at just one and a half years old, finds herself in Rescue. Ruby had been a stray for some time, before Animal Control Officers brought her to a local shelter. Every attempt was made to find Ruby's owners, but nobody came for her. In the meantime, she had the good sense to buddy up to our friend, Emily, who reached out to us on her behalf.

Ruby appears to be a striking mix of Doberman Pinscher and German Shepherd. The most striking quality about Ruby is her deep brown eyes that seemed to convey soulful emotion in one moment, and impish charm in the next. Ruby has the classic black and tan Doberman colors, as well as the Dobey elongated muzzle. Her floppy tipped ears give her the look of a court jester, and suggest the merger of the Doberman's natural ears with the Shepherd's pricked ears. She is a large, strong, 50 pound dog, but despite her size, Ruby is easy to handle on lead. She has a smooth, tri-color coat that requires minimal grooming.

Ruby is a mix of two extremely powerful, intelligent working breeds, so the need for her to receive sufficient exercise and leadership training is paramount. She needs at least two to three brisk leash walks daily, as well as focussed playtime and consistent obedience work. Ruby has quite easily mastered her basic obedience routine and is on her way to Canine Good Citizenship. Adopters should be able to continue her training and achieve certification quickly.

Ruby has a gentle, friendly demeanor and genuinely loves human contact. She would be a good choice for an active single or couple who can provide the exercise and attention that she needs, or she could join a family with older kids. Ruby is on the laid-back end of the personality spectrum, and while she loves to play, her style is not over-the-top rough-house. Ruby longs to make a connection to a great family. She is crate trained, but long periods of time in the crate cause her a little bit of loneliness. She needs a home where there is a lot of action and attention, and where she can shine as a superstar.

Ruby enjoys the company of other dogs, and could easily join a multi-dog home. She has a neutral temperament that could blend into just about any kind of pack. We have not checked her with cats, but her demeanor is gentle, and we anticipate that she could coexist with cats nicely.

Ruby has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Ruby is in excellent health, has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), She has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
