My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello there, my name is Roxy…want to hear about my exciting day? Yes…oh good! I wake up bright and early, between 6 and 6:30 am and can’t wait for my breakfast. I love to eat and my foster mom says I am very motivated by food…whatever that means. I can sit nicely and wait for my food to be given to me. After I eat and do my business outside, I like to curl up on the kitchen floor and chew a bone next to my foster family guinea pig. Don’t worry, Honey Pie is in a cage…but we are great friends and steal kisses when the foster family is not looking. Shhhh, it’s a secret! Time flies when you are a four-month old puppy and before I can finish my bone, we are off in the car to swim team practice.

You see, my foster family has two very active school age girls and my sister, Matilda, and I get to do lots of fun things with them. You would think I would be scared of the car, but not me! I ride in the care multiple times a day, so I love to go on new adventures with my family. Oh back to swim team. I love swim team practice, I get tons of belly rubs and there are dozens of kids who hold and play with me. While the kids are swimming, my foster mom walks me around the park to get some exercise. By the time practice if over…I am so tired. But wait…I get my second wind because the kids are back to play with me. Happy dance! This is my second favorite time of the day. Everyone crowds around my sister and I…we are the unofficial team mascots by the way.

After swim team, I usually take a nap because all those kids really wear me out! It’s about lunch time now and I am in the car once again, now heading to the gym. That’s right…I am so special, I get to hang at a Crossfit gym with my mom and the kids. My sister and I are again the center of attention and sometimes there are other kids or dogs there to play with too. Usually we just sit on my foster kids’ laps while our foster mommy keeps dropping these loud plates hooked to bars. It is very confusing, but we are so used to the noise and loud music…we don’t mind.

After the gym, we like to go the neighborhood park. I really like to swing; I mean REALLY like to swing. I relax into the baby swing and get pushed…back and forth. I could do this for hours if my foster family let me; do you know how relaxing that is? After a couple trips up and down the slide, I chase some tennis balls and we go home. If I am lucky, a neighborhood dog is outside on the walk home and we get to play in their yard for a little bit. I love to play with any dog I find and I don't mind cats too.

The kids in our foster family love to dance and tumble, so once we are home, we are hang out in the yard. I pretend to watch as they twirl around, but often get sleepy and doze off in the warm grass. In the middle of a fantastic dream, I am being picked up and twirled around, suddenly a dance partner. Hey, that was not nice! Oh well, I never care and wag my tail because someone is playing with me once again. I never get mad at the little people, they are my best friends and I would never want to hurt them.

Before long it is dinner time and occasionally bath time. I get lots of baths, the little people in my house love to take a bath or shower with me. If I don’t get to join in on bath time, I get to chew another bone on the bathroom floor while the rest of the family gets clean.

Now, my favorite part of the day. Bedtime! You would think I would not like to go to sleep, but some nights I get to fall asleep with the little people. I snuggle into one of the little girls and we both fall quickly asleep. Once asleep, my foster mom carries me outside to pee and then into my crate for the remainder of the night. I have learned to go into my crate on my own, I get a special treat when I do. Yipee!

Doesn’t this sound like a fantastic day? My foster family says I am a sweet, calm and loving puppy who is just waiting for the right family to come along. Is that family you?

Roxy is female Collie-Labrador mix born February 2016.

AS WITH ALL YOUNG PUPS, this puppy will need constant supervision when not crated. Puppies will chew and get into trouble as any puppy would. A puppy needs a leader and someone to teach the basics of house training, obedience, and behavior. At the ages of 10-16 weeks, puppies tend to tire easily and take lots of naps. As they get older, they will need more exercise (walks, hikes, playing fetch, etc) to expend their energy and to be happy and healthy.

Don't get us wrong, we love puppies! However, we also want those interested in adopting a wee canine to make a thoughtful decision, be realistic in behavior expectations, and be prepared to provide proper and kind leadership.
