My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zephan fka Boo Available for Adoption with Brother Kieran

Formerly known as Boo on the PRBCR site, Zephan is the larger brother, and the dominant one of the pair. He's very protective of his little brother, Kieran, and is rarely far from his side. Zephan loves to be brushed, and willingly submits to getting his nails clipped, although he's skittish about getting them ground. Like his brother, he bonded very quickly with me as a foster mom, and was very protective of me when anyone entered the house. He was especially protective when a man came around - he was not at all interested in interacting with a male friend who came over to help me move a fish tank, but was quite afraid of him. I'm not sure Zephan would thrive in a home with males, and he hasn't been child-tested yet, although I hope to do that soon. As we've mentioned before, these boys are litter mates, 8 years old, and they've been together forever. Until they came to me in late-March, they'd been outside dogs, but they adapted very quickly to indoor living. They sleep within a few feet of each other, whether it's naptime, or time for bed at night. We really want to keep them together, so it's very important that whichever lucky person decides to adopt Zephan gets the double pleasure of getting his little brother Kieran too- they really are a matched set, very attached to each other, and I think they'd be lost without each other. They have gotten along very well with my own dog, Ellie, a 6-year old Border Collie mix who is also a rescue that I have had for three years, and she's had her issues with resource guarding. I am very pleased with the way she has incorporated them into our pack.

Zephan recently learned to eat from his own bowl - apparently he and Kieran were accustomed to eating from a community bowl in the past - but he doesn't always finish his food. He likes to eat lying down. Both he and his brother need work on basic commands like "sit," and "stay," etc..but I've been working on that. Zephan is housebroken, and does well in the house for several hours at a time, although he likes to pick up random things to chew on - books, balls of yarn, pads of paper, so you'll want to keep plenty of chew toys around. Because they were outside dogs for so long, they need a lot of space to explore, so a good size back yard, with a big fence, is a necessity - just don't leave them out too long, or they will dig their way to more exciting things to explore!!

Zephan is just the sweetest little guy, shy and quiet, but will show you a ton of affection once he gets to know you. I really think he will be happiest if he can stay with his brother. Zephan is incredibly sweet, very lovable, travels in a car very well, loads well and is a calm traveler, at least on short trips - I haven't tested him on a long trip yet.
