My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Female, 35lbs, 1. 5 years old (if that). VERY LOVING and FRIENDLY!
*Fenced Yard Required - she's a squirrel chaser*

We are not sure what breed Leia is. She looks like a Dalmation without much black but we really have no clue. She has the short-hair and thin framed body. She is young and LOVES other dogs, loves to play and simply adores her people! She is a "velcro" dog. She thinks she's a lap dog and wants to always be next to you.

She likes sleeping in the bed all snuggled under the covers with you or laying on the couch and watching TV (well you watch, she rests)

Leia came to rescue with a litter of 2 day old pups. We had her pulled from the shelter literally hours before she gave birth. A video of her with her pregnant belly was posted from her shelter. It had over 3,000 views and hundreds of comments that read "please help her" though no one was stepping up to actually take action. Our hearts broke! And despite the 20 hour round trip to save her, we did it! She was an excellent traveler with her newborn babies and was so wonderful around other dogs with her babies that she was immediately welcomed into her foster home by her siblings. She was an excellent mom and had beautiful babies!

This very well tempered girl was a stray who was, apparently, also used for target practice. After battling an infection in her cheek that simply wouldn't go away, we ended up doing xrays and found buckshot segments in her face (that got infected), her neck and her torso. The buckshot causing the infection in her face literally left a crevasse in the bone directly under her eye. It must have hit there and then shattered throughout her face and neck. You can actually feel the missing piece of bone. What a miracle she is alive!!! A couple pieces were found and removed from her face but she'll most likely keep the scar from the surgery. A lot of tissue had to be removed from the infection. We now call her having a little extra character. The buckshot in her neck was also removed but the one in her torso is not causing any damage so it would do more harm than good to take it out.

We look into this sweet girls eyes, we see the scar on her face, and feel the love she releases and wonder how.. just how anyone could choose to harm this wonderful, friendly, girl!!!!!

Now that Leia's mommy days are over and she is all healed from infection, etc. she is looking for her furever human! She does love to chase squirrels (and cats..so no cats) so a fenced yard would be best. No electric. She'd definitely run through electric and then not want to take the shock to come back in. She would also LOVE a playful pup to be friends with! Something around her size. She'll play with a little one but a little dog won't allow her to really be her playful self since she'd have to be more gentle.

Leia is crate-trained and would need to be crated when you are gone. She is still very young (adult age starts at 3...she's half way there) and she likes to chew on stuff when you're not home. So either a crate or laundry room with gate..something to keep her contained.

And yes, she is house-trained and will go out in the rain too.

If you are interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application located at
https://dogsunlimited.wufoo.com/forms/adoption-application-for-dogs-unlimited-rescue/

All Dogs Unlimited Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on all shots, and are given a monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventative. Upon adoption, all vet records and any current medications are provided to the adopter.

THE SUBMISSION OF YOUR APPLICATION DOES NOT GUARANTEE AN ADOPTION NOR DOES IT OBLIGATE YOU TO ADOPT. Multiple applications are accepted for any available pet and a home is chosen that is the best match between the available pet and the potential furever family. Your application will be processed as quickly as possible and if approved, a home visit would be scheduled. No adoption is final until an Adoption Agreement is presented and agreed to by both parties.

Our goal is to find the right match of our dogs to their new family so all involved are furever happy! Questions: email adopt@dogsunlimitedrescue.org

And THANK YOU for considering a rescue dog for your family!
