I am already neutered, housetrained, up to date with shots, good with kids, good with dogs, and good with cats.
Meet Mr. Chubs! Mr. Chubs is a beautiful beagle boy who would be happy to
hang out at a home that has toys, people, toys, kids, toys, cats, toys and
even other dogs. And did I mention toys? Chubs LOVES toys - especially
ones that include squeakers and stuffing. He will de-stuff and de-squeaker
them as quickly as he can, and then hoard them in his bed until he can have
another one. He gets along with dogs and cats - he loves dogs of all sizes
but his favorite are dogs his size and he readily plays with them. He does
best with dog tolerant cats but if he misbehaves it's mostly to chase them a
bit and he doesn't mean any harm. He will back off of any cat who decides
them don't like him. For such a great dog, are you wondering how Mr. Chubs
ended up in foster? Well...he was a stray at a local shelter and suffered
from a particular kind of neglect. In his case, his basic medical needs
were not taken care of and he came into the shelter weighing over 50 lbs.
He should be somewhere between 25 and 30 lbs. The vet sadly called him
'morbidly obese'. On top of that, he was heartworm positive. His foster
mom figured out fairly quickly that it wasn't Chubs eating habits that had
him overweight - it was that he has a low thyroid issue. He requires daily
thyroid pills (about $15 a month) and happily takes them with a little
cheese whiz or peanut butter. These are required for life. He now weighs
10 lbs less, is feeling soooo much better, and is HW free after treatment.
He needs to lose at least another 10 lbs but he and his foster mom have a
solid plan in place (regulate his food and get him for as many walks as
possible - which he loves) so we expect that to only take another 2-3
months. Chubs would love a family committed to his long term maintenance
and healthy well being - and that provides him lots of toys. He loves
sleeping with you on the couch, is housebroken, can use a doggy door, loves
walks and loves being petted, scratched and talked to. He is fully vetted
and ready for a new home, do you have space for a 'shrinking' beagle boy?
