My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable puppy. Peanut is the kind of baby who snuggles in, loves you up and then puts her head on your shoulder. He's so sweet (while being initially just a bit shy) and truly kind with every possibility open to him. That's the case unless a puppy like Peanut is in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space or on the streets hiding in the shadows. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great rescuer in Tijuana, Mexico for saving Peanut from abuse and certain euthanasia. She could see that his temperament was so sweet and his need so great that she couldn't turn her back on this very special pup. Peanut was immediately brought to be vetted, given the appropriate vaccinations, neutered (this is still pending due to Peanut's young age), granted a health certificate and brought to a dog-loving foster to begin his education as a cherished house dog.

When we think of rescue, our thoughts don't usually go onto the tough streets of Tijuana. But these forgotten dogs deserve our help every bit as much as their US counterparts. They all have been used for opportunistic purposes...to either breed and discard or to sell as a puppy to a Mexican mill or rich tourists. Virtually all of them have lived on the streets and survived by learning to be social. They love people because compassionate tourists were their means of survival. They can sit in any language and fit quietly into any scene to earn a treat or discarded meal.

This was the life waiting for Peanut...just 5 months old and a tiny 3.5 lbs (anticipated to be approximately 5 lbs when full grown). This is such a perfect size to be able to accompany his family just about anywhere and then fit perfectly onto a loving lap. Peanut will always fit right in due to his great temperament. He is already starting to understand that sweet, cuddly and cooperative behavior makes great things happen in life. Peanut was one of the extremely lucky very young dogs to show great promise in his socialization skills at a very early age. The US rescuers couldn't help but fall in love with Peanut! We all had a clear picture of this very sweet and fun-loving pup in a forever Colorado home with a family that cherishes him for life.

As Peanut becomes comfortable in his home, he will become a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier his family is with his behavior, the more he will shine with his accomplishments.

We would like to see Peanut in a home that includes him in family time and activities (and of course some lap or couch-time would be perfect!)... and takes that extra step to participate in puppy kindergarten and positive reinforcement obedience classes. These classes take a very smart puppy like Peanut and teaches them the skills to fit into a great family member that can behave appropriately in any situation.

Peanut would be a wonderful companion for active retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable young pup. Peanut would enjoy another gentle dog to play with...he's so sweet and gentle as he puts his positive energy into enjoying the day with a fun friend.

Peanut was identified as a Papillon(those classic and adorable flyaway ears)/Pomeranian mix by his Tijuana rescuer. This is difficult to determine with certainty, but we can see both adorable and engaging breeds in this very sweet dog.

Peanut appears to be either a non-shedding or lightly shedding guy with the cottony-soft hair that speaks of his breed mix. Peanut will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (a salmon oil supplement would be great) to keep his hair healthy and matt-free.

Peanut is arriving on transport in Boulder in mid-May. Applications are currently being accepted for our very sweet pup with the dark, expressive eyes. If interested in this adorable ...and often very fun and entertaining best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
