If you are looking for a loving cutie, Twinky is your girl! She is a sweet 6 1/2 year old small female Dachshund/Chihuahua mix (short coat). She weighs about 9 1/2 pounds.  Twinky was surrendered to Little Paws by an elderly lady that wanted to make sure she found a loving home before her owner's health failed. She loved Twinky very much!

Twinky has long legs, a petite body and a unique body feature such as her ears; one is floppy and the other stands up which makes her even cuter!  She is house trained and does very well on car rides.  She will sit very nicely in a dog car seat.  Twinky also loves to go on walks.  She is crate trained and goes right to sleep at night with no fuss; but if Twinky has a choice, she does like to sleep in the ‘big bed’ so she can be close to you.

Twinky loves to lie in the sun and usually has a doggie smile on her face when she does this.  She is very happy if you sit outside with her to enjoy the nice weather.

She is fairly quiet, rarely barking, but very alert. She does not like to be left home alone so she would love to have another buddy in her forever home to play with and keep her company or better yet, someone who is home all day.  She is a little timid at first, but warms up quickly and becomes Ms. Independent as life has so much to offer and all the great things to explore and she wants to share it with you.  She likes other small dogs and she is fine with respectable children.

Twinky loves to sit on your lap to snuggle, cuddle and just be involved in family life.  She also likes to jump and climb, even over a baby gate as she just wants to be wherever you are.  She will need to be supervised in a fenced-in back yard; one that she cannot climb or jump over.

Twinky has a sensitive digestive system and can't eat just any kind of foods even though she loves to eat. This precious little girl does a cute little dance on two legs as she is waiting for her food and it will put a smile on your face every time!  She has a condition called “Clostridia” where she takes 1/4 of a daily pill called Flagyl and must continue to have it the rest of her life. You just mix it with her food.

Note:  Twinky must be adopted within 75 miles of the Metropolitan Baltimore/DC area due to her sensitive digestive system.

Adoption Fee:  $250.00 + $45.00 for a health certificate if going over state lines (required by law).  Dogs adopted in New England are subject to additional rules and regulations by the state departments of agriculture. Complying with these regulations is expensive for our rescue, and all dogs adopted in New England states are subject to an additional $135 fee to help cover a portion of these expenses.

Transportation Help

If you see a furbaby that is a match for your family, don’t let distance stand in the way of your adoption. LPDR can work with you to have a volunteer transport to assist with transportation or refer you to a paid transport.

About Little Paws Dachshund Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and wellbeing while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.

Our Adoption Process...

6 Step Adoption Process

We require:

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract. If you would like additional information on our adoption contract you can email and a copy of our contract will be sent to you electronically.
