Facts about Mandarin

  • Breed: Boxer
  • Color: White
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
  • Sex: Female
Mandarin is a little cutie between 1 and 2 years old who came from the Harlingen area. She has a white coat with polka dots everywhere and coal black eyes. Her natural tail and ears are clear giveaways for her state; from disappearing under her to furiously wagging like a flag in a storm. She has received preventive medication for tick borne illnesses as all our fosters from south Texas do, and she is heartworm positive although you’d never guess it from her Boxer burns. Treatment is always addressed with the permanent family and it’s no longer difficult.

Mandarin has taken several months to gain confidence and trust humans . She gradually eased into her pack of 4 permanent Boxers and learned to trust her humans from them. She has taken her place in the pack; eating, taking turns for treats, going in her crate for “naptime”, snuggling up on the bed at night, walking properly on leash and not “slinking” when she asks for pets and attention. She races in and out the dog door, does Boxer burns inside and out, and plays with her buddies. When they aren’t willing she throws a toy for herself.

She’s about 48 pounds now and is just right. She does well on leash, is very good with her crate, and is house trained although she once feared melting in the rain, it doesn’t seem to bother her now. She does very well with other dogs. Mandarin does not live with cats so we don’t know how she relates to them. She had an active 10 year old boy and a beginning-to-walk toddler in her home for several weeks and was very appropriate with each of them. Now she eagerly meets guests and asks to come up in her foster dad’s lap for hugs and kisses. Mandarin is not deaf although it took 3 weeks to be sure.

Mandarin is a very pretty little cutie that will require patience and support to make a transition to a forever family. She would do best with another dog or 2 and people who allow her to develop trust and confidence at her own pace. She is smart, figuring out the dog door on the first try, but cautious. She will likely love going places with her humans once she learns to trust them.
