THIS IS A COURTESY POSTING. Drex is being fostered by the family that found him, and we are assisting them with their search for a perfect home for Drex. This is what his family has to say about him!

My name is Drex and I am a 2-year-old pitty mix looking for my forever home. I love being outside, playing and a human that loves giving me attention. I am dog selective and do not like to live with kitty cats because I want to chase them. I love all humans and love to give kisses to anyone I meet. I do not bark when people come to the door but I do slowly walk over to check out who is coming to visit. I am praise motivated, would do very well with a forever home with a fully fenced in yard, a human who is cool with keeping to a schedule, loves to play during the day and loves to snuggle at night in bed together.

I make the cutest noises such as snorts, something similar to Chewbacca on occasion and I snore adorably. I recently went to a two-week training camp where I learned some great manners such as being crate trained, heel, sit, down and a few others. While I still need work on my training to become an expert, I have a great base to work off of. I love to play ball and when I get really excited I turn into a little puppy pretzel.

Toys: Heavy duty Kong filled with treats, Tennis balls, Heavy duty chew toys (I will come with all of these toys).

Bathroom etiquette: I am crate trained

House preference: Fully fenced in yard so I am free to pee and frolic, a house with enough room to accommodate my crate (can’t forget my house)!

Owner preference: Someone willing to take the time to keep up my training, to play with me and to snuggle.

Food: I am currently eating Nutro brand and I love it

Car rides: I love the car and I love to be in the front seat or sitting on one of my humans. I calm down and usually pass out quickly. I have done a two-hour car ride with no problem and I love heated seats with a blanket on top.

Kids: I would do well with older children who would understand how to keep up with my training. I am not yet ready for tiny children because I would want to play with them.

Dogs: I am doggie selective and would need to meet my new companion before determining if we would be a forever fit.

Cats: I do not do well with kitties because I want to chase them.

About Shelter Survivors

About Our Rescue Group...

Shelter Survivors was formed to serve the needs of dogs that have been brought to shelters in the tri-state area, by providing loving and expedient rescue, foster homes and placement with a great measure of compassion and through teamwork with you and other rescue groups and shelters. Our focus is primarily on shelter dogs, and we work with local shelters to help communities in our area. We believe in saving the lives of shelter dogs, one dog at a time.

Shelters Survivors is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Any financial support to help us care for our animals is very much appreciated and we also need dog food, crates of all sizes, beds and blankets for the pets in our care.

We do not have a shelter so we don't have visiting hours.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Please note that Shelter Survivors does not run a physical shelter but uses a unique network of loving foster homes to house the animals awaiting adoption. To meet one of the animals that you find on the web, come to our adoption days (see the "events" page of our website) or send us an application at Most of our adoption days are at PetCo in Raritan (off of the Somerville Circle).

Our Adoption Process...

To adopt one of our animals, go to our website at and download our Microsoft Word dog application, or use our "online application."

Adoption Fees:

Adoption fees are donations to Shelter Survivors, not payment for value received, and are based primarily on the age, health, and temperament of a particular dog, and our expenses. Shelter Survivors is not an actual shelter, and we are not subsidized. Most shelters receive municipal funding, while Shelter Survivors operates on adoption fees and donations. All of our members are volunteers, and none of us receives a salary or payment of any kind. Our funds go 100% toward the care of our dogs, primarily for veterinary expenses. Volunteers usually pay the costs for transport, fostering, phone calls, postage, and adoption screening out of their own pockets.

The adoption fees range from $200.00 to $300.00, which is a bargain when you consider that spaying/neutering, testing, training and inoculations are usually included. Any difference in fee is noted in the description of the individual pet. Many animals have been micro-chipped.
