Mitchell is a one-year-old Terrier mix (we suspect Schnauzer and Beagle) who is extremely upbeat, happy, friendly, affectionate and sweet. He is always wagging his tail and has a big smile on his face. He is just so happy to be alive and out of the shelter (we saved him from Devore Animal Shelter). You can tell that Mitchell just longs to play with another dog. He has tried to engage my older dogs to play with him, but they are not having it. So I think it is safe to say that Mitchell is playful. He bounces around the yard, exploring. When he is in the house, he either gallops or trots; he just has a happy, playful pep in his step.

Mitchell is completely non-aggressive in every way. He is fine with all dogs, big and small, boy or girl. Based on what I see, I suspect Mitchell would be fantastic with kids. I would consider Mitchell to be a great family dog whereby he can be included in the family activities. He is more on the active side in that he is curious and interested in engaging in activities and not just sitting around the house being a couch potato, however, he can also settle down and chill as well as occasionally play with toys on his own, entertaining himself. He knows to go potty outside but being that he was just recently neutered, has needed to be redirected from marking in my house once or twice. He rode in my car very nicely in a transport crate, and was great at the vet. He walked OK on the leash, but could benefit from more leash practice. I have heard him bark when the other dogs are barking at something, monkey see, monkey do, but otherwise he is quiet. He is not destructive towards anything in the house that he is not supposed to touch, so far. But I would not put it past him not to counter surf if there is food on the edge of the counter. I have never seen him dig a hole in the yard. His main bad habit is jumping up on me but this is merely out of excitement and wanting to play with me and this he can be trained not to do.

Mitchell can benefit from continued structure and even some formal training like a simple Pet-smart or Petco beginner’s class. He is a smart dog, and we are crate-training him now, for structure and boundaries training. He can whine or bark a bit in the crate at night if he wants another rawhide chew! I give him one, then another, but then tell him that is enough! He sleeps in a 36 inch wire crate (anything smaller is too confining for Mitchell – he is just shy of 25 pounds). If I have to leave the house, I have left him in the crate and have been gone for up to five hours. He has been fine in the crate. He learned the dog door in the first day.

Mitchell is a very cute and unique looking dog. He is a wire-haired terrier type with a very different coloring; he is chocolate brown on his body and most of his tail, and tan on his face and limbs. Being a wire-haired, he is either a no shedding or at the very least a low shedding. His coat is not very rough either; it is wire-haired, but still a bit on the soft side. Mitchell is a GREAT size, not registering in one’s brain as a small dog, but definitely still under the 25 pound mark. He is technically still a small dog but leaning towards a nice medium size.

The requirements for Mitchell are:
a) Home with a yard for Mitchell to explore, run around and play
b) Preferably a home with another playful dog to engage his play penchant
c) People who are not gone from home over 4-5 hours as a general rule
d) We recommend that new dogs in a new place be crated during a transitional phase for observation (when folks are gone from home). You can later wean away from crating.
e) All adopted dogs MUST be indoor dogs and never be excluded to the outdoor with no indoor access.

Mitchell is neutered, de-wormed, front-lined, vaccinated including rabies, and micro-chipped.
