Facts about Tessa - 12 1/2

  • Breed: Chihuahua
  • Color: Brown/Chocolate
  • Age: Senior
  • Size: Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
  • Sex: Female
Tessa was a stray found in Kentucky and was lucky enough to find her way to our PA Sanctuary. She is very sweet but also has a sassy side. She holds her own with the bigger dogs in her group. She has that typical Chihuahua attitude that I LOVE! She loves her treats and gobbles up her meals right away. She enjoys walking around in the yard but seems to look forward to coming back inside. We are using pee pee pads to prevent accidents and she is using them with no problem so we are guessing she must be familiar with them. I like using the pee pee pads with the Chihuahuas to cut down on trips outside in the brutal winters here in PA. She is very attentive to people and looks for petting and attention. She can be a bit nippy if she doesn't know you and you go to pet her but once she knows you, she's fine. She has short legs but manages to do the stairs ok on her own, but I usually carry her up and she's ok with that as well.

4-2016 -- 12 yr old female chi. She just arrived so we are getting to know her, but from what we see so far...oh she's a doll baby! Update to come soon but call or email if interested in meeting her. 570-579-8172 or

About Mureille's Place - A Senior Dog Sanctuary

About Our Rescue Group...

Mureille’s Place is a small home-based 501c3 rescue. We are a cage-free no-kill facility that provides a safe haven for unwanted senior dogs until they can be adopted into a forever home or if unadoptable, live out their remaining days with love, dignity and respect. The sanctuary is located on 7 wooded acres that include several walking trails that the dogs enjoy year round. We are very proud that we are an all volunteer rescue and do not have any paid staff or board members and that all tax deductible donations go to the rescue operation.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Visits to the shelter are by appointment only. Please call Barbara at 570-579-8172 to arrange.

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoption process includes a pre-adoption interview to determine the type of home you will provide and will aid us in finding the right dog for you. We prefer that the dog do a “weekend” visit or longer before adopting to ensure that both the adopter and the dog are sure that it is a good match. There is an application to be filled out, a home visit and adoption donation typically from $50 - $150 (non-refundable). All dogs are spayed or neutered and are up to date on all shots.

We have also launched our "Seniors for Seniors" program where we do not charge a fee at all to qualifying senior citizens who adopt one of our seniors.

We are also working on a program that would allow a senior to adopt one of our seniors and we would take care of food, vet visits etc and be a place for the dog to come back to if the adopter had health issues and needed to be hospitalized or worse, passed away and there were no family members to take the dog in. This would greatly benefit seniors on a fixed income who want to own a dog but can't provide for them or are afraid that they will not outlive the dog. We are searching for funding for this program and will launch it as soon as that funding is found.
