Please submit an application AND do NOT also contact the shelter. You will be contacting both the adoption coordinator and the marketing director, who do not see each other's emails. This causes confusion.
BEAR is a handsome as they come! He is just over a year old and 130 lbs!!! Luckily BEAR is a gentle giant. He lives in a foster home with a senior lab girl. They have a blast playing, but he also listens when she says she doesn't want to play any more. BEAR has done well with every single dog he's met. We aren't sure about kitty cats. He also lives in a foster home with young child; they are best buds! However he is a big guy who can inadvertently knock over any small child just walking by. BEAR is crate trained and knows not to potty in the house. He is a calm passenger on car rides and is happy to go just about anywhere. BEAR is as sweet as can be and loved by all who meet him. His absolute favorite thing in the world is cuddling. He is certain that he is a lap dog. BEAR is going to make his forever family's rottie dreams come true!

Even though BEAR is friendly and kind he is very large. For this reason BEAR is not available to home with children under 10 years old UNLESS they have large breed experience.

BEAR is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations.
His $450 adoption fee includes interstate health certificate and transport to the Midwest.

All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, they travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Alpha Dog Pet Transport for our New England, Nashville, and Knoxville adoptions ( and The Road Home Pet Transport for our Midwest adopters (

Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff.

Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

BEAR, a Milwaukee Rottweiler dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Rottweiler for sale in Milwaukee, or seeking a Rottweiler dog from a breeder in Milwaukee.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Milwaukee already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Milwaukee breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Rottweiler breeders who help with Rottweiler rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Milwaukee paves the way for another one to be saved.
