Suzy Q is looking for a home that can give her the love, patience, attention and exercise she needs. I know, this first statement makes her sound like a pretty needy pet – but believe me – she's a total sweetheart! She just had a rough start in her original home. You see, her first mom also had a few Boston Terriers. Well, Suzy's instincts told her that they were tiny cows and she kept trying to round them up and would sometimes nip at their heels and shoulders to move them along. As you can imagine, that did not go over well with either the Bostons or her owner. So Suzy Q is now with our foster mom, learning how to be a house dog. She gets along well with most dogs, but supervision is needed. She will sometimes try to gently herd the other dogs along. Suzy would probably be most content as the only dog, or in a family that is experienced with herding breeds. She does thoroughly enjoy the company of her humans and loves to play with her tennis ball! She's getting better at riding in the car – the first few times she was a little anxious, but she is calming right down and learning to enjoy the ride. She is friendly with strangers, but doesn't go out of her way to greet them. She does like to be petted and responds well to praise, we think she would learn new tricks quickly and would probably love to go on long daily walks or runs with her new humans. She walks well on a leash, sits on command, comes when called, takes treats very gently and is house and crate trained. We think that Suzy is a Border Collie / Red Heeler mix and is approximately 8 months old. She currently weighs around 40 pounds and at her age, we believe that she will not get any bigger. She has soft, silky fur, fabulous ears and a beautiful smile! Suzy has been spayed, is up to date on vaccinations (Dhpplv, Rabies and Bordatella), is Heartworm negative and takes a monthly Heartworm and flea/tick preventative. Suzy has been waiting a long time for her forever family, so we have reduced her adoption fee to $350 in hopes that they will find her soon! Do you think that your family is the one for Suzy Q? If so, email today for an application!

Please, you MUST visit the following link BEFORE emailing for further information. If you'd like to find out more information about our adoption procedure or to apply for this dog visit

Or e-mail to request an adoption application, or visit our website at

Once we receive your complete application, an adoption counselor will call you within 48 hours of receipt of the application. During the adoption interview, the adoption counselor will tell you more about the dog/puppy and our adoption processes, as well as answer any questions you have.

Dogs and puppies are up-to-date on their vaccinations, spayed/neutered, de-wormed, treated for fleas/ticks and heartworm negative before leaving rescue. You will receive complete medical records for your dog and puppy at the time of adoption.

The adoption fee is $450 and covers the cost of all veterinary care and transportation to your area.

Our dogs and puppies are delivered via a USDA-certified van transport and receive an Interstate Health Certificate -- issue by a licensed, accredited veterinarian -- no more than 10 days before the dog or puppy leaves rescue.

All of our dogs and puppies come into rescue from the "death row" of animal shelters in the south, or are owner surrenders or strays who were "pound bound" before coming into rescue. Adopting a dog or puppy from the Dixie Pet Underground Railroad means you are truly part of a partnership to save the life of the dog or puppy that you welcome into your family.

Our dogs or puppies are fostered at our rescue in Tennessee, meaning that it isn't possible to meet the dog or puppy before adoption. Our adoption counselor works with you to do everything possible to ensure that there is a good match between the family and the dog. We have had several hundred dogs adopted using this process and most of the time, it results in happy puppies and happy people.

If for any reason an adoption is not successful, the Dixie Pet Underground Railroad will work with the adopter to find the best possible solution for the dog and the adopting family.

We can provide contact information for adopters in your area who can tell you about their experience partnering with the Underground Railroad to save the life of a dog and make the animal a part of their family.

We look forward to hearing from you and working with you to find the right dog for your family!

Each group has many, many, references of happy adopters that can fill you in on their experience. Just email and they can pass along that information for your convenience. Thanks!
